About once a week I check ebay to see if there are any used PSE mufflers for sale and I have almost always seen some stock 996 mufflers listed.

Where did you get your mufflers? Did you use the one that came with your car?
I'd like to find a pair of used ones but couldn't find any at ebay and I'm sure the junkyard would ask for close to dealer prices, no?

About once a week I check ebay to see if there are any used PSE mufflers for sale and I have almost always seen some stock 996 mufflers listed. I just checked ebay and you are correct, there are none listed, which is the first time in about a year that I haven't seen any listed. Wait a few days and check again. I'll bet some pop-up again.
Some members here have changed out their stock exhaust for PSE or after market exhaust and still have the stock mufflers. Someone here might be willing to sell theirs to you or may even offer them to you for free if you agree to pay the shipping.
1. What mufflers do I use for the PSE mod? Use 3.6 2002-2004 mufflers. Unless you want the small-pipe version 1 mod, the 99-01 mufflers will do nothing for you in terms of sound. Use 02-04 mufflers and the Version 2 mod for best results. I did the version 2 mod on the 99-01 cans and it did almost nothing.
2. How do I tell which mufflers are which?
The 2002-2004 mufflers look identical to the 1999-2001 cans. The 2002-2004 cans have an accordian on the inlet from the cat. If you have the accordian, you have newer mufflers that should work well with the version 2 mod.
I just purchased a set of 3.6 mufflers for $70 shipped on eBay last week. Keep checking, you just have to get lucky. Another option is ask one a board member to buy one. There are lots of people here with 02-04s that went with an aftermarket exhaust and have the old cans laying around... ready to be modded.

I have a pair of standard mufflers from 2003 C2 (taken off at 4,000 miles). I'd give them to you if you are willing to come and pick them up - I am in the Thousand Oaks area of Socal. Let me know if you are interested.

Are your mufflers spoken for? I am looking for a set to modify also until I can find a used set of PSE's. Can't afford them new. I don't want to steal them from anyone else though if they are spoken for.
