One option is to simply take the outputs of the existing amplifier, run them thru a JL Audio Clean Sweep:

Do I lose anything by replacing the head unit due to the MOST (except for the song title in the tach display)?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am ready to take the plunge, I understand that with the MOST crap I will have to replace everything (head, amp, and speakers) but I just can't stand a $100k car sounding worse than a Pinto (Stereo wise). BTW:Please don't tell me to listen to the engine, moving at 20mph next to a Semi at rush hour I can't hear the engine. Believe me at 5am Sunday morning on a twisty country road it is engine all they way! A couple questions: Has anyone done this DIY or is a professional installer needed? Do I lose anything by replacing the head unit due to the MOST (except for the song title in the tach display)? Should I keep the original look (I have only the CDR23 not the GPS option) or upgrade to a display unit (I have GPS through a PDA, but a built in might be nice) Lastly, I will probably go with an installer unless it is really easy, any good ones in Raleigh, NC that have 996 with MOST experience? I have seen many threads discussing upgrades on pre-MOST 996's and I will scan those for equipment opinions, but even so if you would like to suggest components, I'm all ears (or eyes really)

POST 2Original post

One option is to simply take the outputs of the existing amplifier, run them thru a JL Audio Clean Sweep: http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_c...php?page_id=94 (to remove the DSP EQ and restore a 'flat' audio repsonse), take these outputs and run them to your own amplifier and speakers/powered subwoofer. In this manner, you maintain all OEM functionality of the CDR23 and get your desired audio performance. Just a thought.....

POST 3Original post

I really want to install the Eclipse by Fujitsu system: http://www.eclipse-web.com/7000index.html

POST 4Original post

I would like an aftermarket NAV system that leaves the car looking completely stock. I have looked at old threads, is there anyone witha NON-flip NAV system that looks stock?

POST 5Original post

Look at the Pioneer in dash unit. I can't remember the model number off the top of my head but I looked at it a few months back to replace my Delco POS in my Yukon XL. With some modifications and an OEM frame for the P-car nav system, I think you could get this unit to work well and look professionally installed as well. Of course, you WILL have to take it off the MOST bus.

POST 6Original post

I want a Jack Bauer "24" stereo that has a flip-up GPS, retina scanner, DVD player, hot plate, and manuicure kit.

POST 7Original post

You can remove all the origional system and replace it with any aftermarket equipment with no problem to the cars computer system. And for a stationary screen dvd nav head unit, look at the Eclipse AVN units.
