Read evidence and context

Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am trying to educate myself on 996's to make a purchase. I am looking at '00 and '01 mostly. I notice most seem to have the AC Controls below the radio, with something that looks like a CD holder between the two. Others have something that looks like this however, and I am trying to figure out what option is this that is below the radio, it resembles 4 buttons of sorts. Just trying to see why some have the AC above and others below.

POST 2Original post

These components can be swapped around. With the a/c below the radio, you will have a tape or cd storage unit available above, then the radio above, then the cupholder unit above that (useless). In the picture you posted, that is a cassette tape storage unit below the radio. It can be swapped out for a cd storage unit, or empty storage unit as well. You can yank out the cupholder unit above the radio in the car you are looking at, and move the a/c to that location, then place another storage box in the lower unit.
