I opted to use the cross member on the other side of the sump.

Suggestion
I did have to use my Dremel tool to grind down slightly part of one of the connection points, since it was blocked by the hose clamp on the right side.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Do you guys have any links or information on the Porsche protection plate that goes under the engine?
Sorry, the search function is not working for me.
Thanks
I bought mine from Sunset Porcshe. About $80 to my door. Took all of 5 minutes to install and has been a life saver looking at it now!
From Gert's site (Carnewal):
This protection plate will fit every 3.4 and 3.6L (except TT and GT3).
Recommended for every lowered MY'99.
Jeff at Sunset told me there are actually 2 more pieces that you can get to cover the hose areas as well, but I opted for just the main center one covering the oil pan. One of the bolts on my oil pan had taken a good rub and I think that was the writing was on the wall, the protection plate is a real good idea.

Does anyone have the part number from Sunset?
Dell:
How "beefy" is that protection plate? Would it be able to sustain a fairly good hit and still stay away from the oil pan? What's the clearance between the oil pan and the plate? Chuck
Just rearward of the sump is a metal stub cast into the engine case. See Orient Express' write-up here:
http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=3404
That point seems to be blocked by the protection plate.
Moreover, Dell, I mean, how hard is it to remove the oil sump cover? Cake, right?
I'm ordering one as we speak from Sunset.
Pity it loses that nice shine after use. So nice when new, eh? That sparkle under the car....
That's a good observation, Dell, but it is a convenient point to use. Just need to be careful not get the lift under/against the sump. nycebo, you also make a good point, though it also looks like one might still be able to use engine case lift point (if the plate is up against the case. or at least very close). I'll find out soon enough, my should arrive soon.
Hope your kidding Edward
There is no removal of anything to install the protection plate. Three bolts that are already on the car (which you will see when you line it up) that are removed and then reinstered with the plate in place.
Of course, big man. I just keep thinking how crazy Orient Express would go if that were under his car. He'd have to put the car on blocks every time he cleans it in order to bring out that dazzle. Don't you remember how neat and tidy his car looked in the photos from his recent suspension upgrade? Man, I wouldn't even know how to get started.....maybe after my Zaino kit arrives.
Thanks Guys for the info on this. Just ordered mine from Sunset as well. Need a quick mod project to continue treating the " Rennlist mod disease", this looks like a great choice and remedy for the disease!
I was very disappointed when I got my plate. It's lightweight aluminum
and IMHO won't protect you from "hits". It looks like it's more for helping
you coast over things when you run aground.

What exactly were you looking for? Battle armour? Regardless of it's density, it does a great job and exactly what it was made for. The manner in which it is installed it WILL protect from even major hits. Wouldn't you rather the plate take the dents, dings, and chips, than your sump cover?
Install follow up: I installed the protection plate this weekend. As Dell said, it was simple. I did have to use my Dremel tool to grind down slightly part of one of the connection points, since it was blocked by the hose clamp on the right side. That added 5 minutes to the task. While the plate is very lightweight, I think it will serve its purpose well. The plate does partially block the rear lift point I referred to earlier. It probably could still be used, but likely would deform the plate at that point. I did not try it, though with the plate on there is less risk of damaging the sump. I opted to use the cross member on the other side of the sump. Not as convenient, but it works.
