Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

You might check your charge first thing in the morning, before that first start and first drive of the day (and hence before the alternator can charge it up).
Leading evidence: 'Check charge first thing in the morning' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). They fix everything, but they can't fix the starting issues...because they of course can't reproduce it (though they did run diagnostic on everything, including checking for RMS, mechanic said the car looks real good and everything is real clean)...so I'm going to describe the starting issue and see if anybody here has experienced it in the past so we can tell them where to look without having to reproduce it.

I had the same thing on mine about 4 times in a year and a half before replacing the motor.

I doubt you will get them to replace the starter until it actually quits though.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Ok, so for those who don't know I'm gonna give the run down on the history of this car as a preface.
Dad buys 2002 C2, oh I dunno 3 weeks ago or so. Car still had over a month of factory warranty, plus a 3 year extended. So, this past Saturday the expansion tank goes...while we are at the dealer picking up an air filter. So we drive it over to the service bay and tell them while they are at it the passenger seat won't lift at the back and every now and then it has starting issues.

Sometimes you'll turn the starter and you'll hear a faint whirring up front, but the engine isn't cranking. Try it again, typically it works, but then sometimes it does the same thing, though it always ends up starting eventually, I think it took at most 4 tries. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Richard
I agree - starter is not pushing out far enough to engage for starting. I had the same thing on mine about 4 times in a year and a half before replacing the motor. Now I have an annoying A/C hum that drives me crazy and no one else can hear.
These machines are more picky and more costly then women. I doubt you will get them to replace the starter until it actually quits though.
Two other possible (and cheaper) thoughts: 1. Replace ignition switch which is known to wear, and 2. check clutch pedal kill switch.
I have also been having starter issues which the dealer has not yet figured out. It only occurs when the car is cold (first start of the day). I turn the key and all electrics turn on as expected, and I hear a "click" from the rear of the car, but the engine doesn't turn over. After several additional attempts, the car starts fine, starter motor seems strong. I don't think it's the clutch pedal kill switch because I don't hear the "click" if I try to start the car without depressing the clutch. I just replaced the ignition switch, but the problem persists.
Any other thoughts besides the starter motor. ?Starter relay maybe?

I had the same issue...replaced the starter motor, but problem persisted. Possibly related, battery would drain itself overnight. Had both replaced and problem solved.

The longer it sits, the lower the charge will go...until ultimately not enough juice left to turn the starter.
Thanks. I'll check that. I considered the battery, but then why, after several unsuccessful attempts would it finally start fine? Also, all lights, horn, etc. are strong prior to, and during start attempts.
How much does the starter motor cost to replace?
I believe my lights and horn worked too, although mine wouldn't start after unsuccessful attempts until battery was charged...so perhaps it's a different issue.
Starter cost about $530 installed at indep shop.
