Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I stopped at my shop this morning to drop off a couple of things, when I go to start the car to leave the key does a 180 degree turn and there is no ignition. I sat and turned it for 5 minutes in total disbelief and nothing. I started to pull apart the left vent to get to the ignition but couldn't because there is a third srew I couldn't figure out how to get to. So I'm putting the car back together and one of our techs puts the key in half way, turns it, and them slides the key in completely and it works again like nothing happened. I guess it has something to do with the way I took the key out and how the tumblers fell. Anyone ever had this wierd occurance happen to them?? Any quick hints how to get to that third screw in the side vent? TIA. -garth

The 996 ignition cylinders are notorious for breaking, some plastic piece that gives up. Get it checked rather than getting stranded.
