Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

17 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Yep, the old 4 into2 into 1 design, was called the Tri-Y, didn't work well on drag cars, but worked well on road course, broadens the torque curve, came on the early Shelby GT 350 ect.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi All, Long story is i live in SoCal and i went to get my car smogged and i failed only because i had after market headers. It has passed the last few tests with them so i didnt even think about it. My plan is to just buy some used oem headers and swap them out. Hopefully it is that easy. However i was curious which ones i have because i cant find them anywhere online. There is a good chance someone on here knows If it helps i have techart exhaust and i believe the stock cats. Car is lowered with Ohlins coilovers. Please let me know if you know which ones these are. Thanks for taking a look.

POST 2Original post

Wow Those are unique, I thought I had seen every type of configuration, but those are different.

POST 3Original post

Never seen those either. I have a stock 3.6 set if you can't find any local.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks, but i found a set of used ones for 120$ that i just ordered. also, i should have mentioned that my car is a 2001 3.4l.

POST 6Original post

Could they be custom made. If PO spent the money on Techart Exhaust ( I am assuming mufflers) and coil overs, it's not out of the realms of possibilities that they were built. The length and twist of the collector is really state of the art. Are there any part numbers or logos stamped on them? No idea if they work great, but they sure look cool.

First year at a STAR inspection station?

POST 8Original post

Looks like a six cyl version of the Tri-Y, pretty cool..

PT3 What is tri-y? I remember back in the late 1970s early 1980s, drag cars experimented with each side of a V8, (2)2 into small collectors, then join them under the chassis. Never did work. But don't some of the European/English 4 cylinder sports car have a (2)2 to one design, maybe Alfa and MG cars?

Yep, the old 4 into2 into 1 design, was called the Tri-Y, didn't work well on drag cars, but worked well on road course, broadens the torque curve, came on the early Shelby GT 350 ect. and still see the design around sometimes. It's a good flat torque design, but not a high peak power design.

POST 11Original post

Tri-Y's can also be tuned for long ovals, but its metric tons of dollars.. Currently Shorty, stepped headers are common in NASCAR. Dough Thorley probably sold the most of them in the US but not for P-cars..

POST 12Original post

Hm. I am curious if you will see performance loss when installing the OEM units. Willing to sell those one ?

I actually remember that name, Doug Thorley headers wow, that was a lot of years ago

POST 15Original post

I have a 94 Jeep Wrangler with one of his headers on my 4Cyl,, bought me a nice solid bump in torque.. The motor was then built, it spins nicely to 6000 now..

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

@5CHN3LL this is. i messed up and forgot to smog my car last year and it technically hasn't been registered for a year (paid but not smogged). so now i have to go to a STAR place. @GarretSR5. I will let you know if i feel a difference. The main reason i bought this car was because i think it sounds really nice. If that changes or i notice performance change ill put them back on after the test. thanks all

POST 17Original post

I have Agency Power headers on my car, and they look similar in that all 3 main tubes collect at the center (and are equal lengths to that point). The collector doesn't look like yours though... https://www.enjukuracing.com/product...All%20Products
