Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Happy new year to all. I am replacing all of the suspension arms/rods/bars on the rear. Porsche parts. My question is: When tightening the various bolts, is it necessary or desireable to load the suspension to approximately its normal operating position? Thanks for your thoughts. Lang G

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the replies. Any suggestions how to do that? Car is on jack stands at all 4 corners. Lang G

POST 5Original post

Put everything together hand tight, then just put jack under the wheel carrier and jack it up slowly until you see it lifting off the jack stand, then drop back a touch, and torque to spec. Repeat on each corner.

POST 6Original post

^^^ While the above will work in a pinch, I'd put all 4 wheels on equal height blocks (something like 4 - 6x6's under each wheel) so the car is planted on all 4 wheels when tightening.

POST 7Original post

if anything, its better to slightly overload each individual corner so the balljoint retains a slight safety preload into the carrier and bushings have less twist while going through travel
