I used the OEM part but am open to replace it with the metal part, since I do NOT want that thing breaking.

It was advised on the PPI that the water pump looked original and since I have no record of it or the spark plugs being changed, I am going to take care of these items.

Suggestion
Re-use your hose clamps if they are in good condition, but dont be afraid to replace them with the updated design (while there are older comments about the updated design actually being a poorer design, the truth is, its not a poorer design, and Porsche has been using those new clamps for quite some time without any issues).

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've owned my 2003 Targa for a little over one year and about 5,000 miles. It currently sits at 63k miles. It was advised on the PPI that the water pump looked original and since I have no record of it or the spark plugs being changed, I am going to take care of these items. Take a look at the parts/plan below and let me know what you think.
Pierburg water pump (composite impeller)
New gasket and hardware
Motorad 160F thermostat
New gasket and hardware
Bosch FGR5KQEO spark plugs
No spark plug tubes to be replaced, correct?
What about coil packs? Should those be replaced?
While the mufflers are off I am going to have seams repaired and Gundo hack done
Any other "while you're in there" suggestions? Serpentine belt, engine oil, filter, cabin, and air filter have been changed since I have owned the car.
Think about replacing the tiny plastic coolant connector near the serpentine belt rollers. The factory part breaks real easily, and there is an aluminum replacement part.

This guy, right? I replaced it during my alternator mishap in September. I used the OEM part but am open to replace it with the metal part, since I do NOT want that thing breaking. Would you go URO or Rauch?
Many people say to leave the coil packs alone if they don't have problems. I changed mine proactively when I did the plugs. They're not expensive if you shop around. I think I got mine from Warehouse33 - a Rennlist sponsor. You are correct that your car doesn't have plastic tubes that need to be changed. Since you already changed the plastic connector that tends to break, I would leave it alone for now. I think part of the fragility is that the plastic gets brittle with age. I have the Rauch replacement on hand but I haven't gotten around to installing it yet.
I would just make sure you use the vacuum system to get as much of the old coolant out - as much as 5.5 gallons - before replacing the water pump.
Since you have to take at least one coolant hose off, Id consider the age/condition of the hoses and replace them. They arent cheap. Re-use your hose clamps if they are in good condition, but dont be afraid to replace them with the updated design (while there are older comments about the updated design actually being a poorer design, the truth is, its not a poorer design, and Porsche has been using those new clamps for quite some time without any issues).
i get that things have changed over there, BUT
how much 'free' model specific tech advice have you gained from RA? I still buy from PP when ever makes sense $$. The little extra is not even close to the money I've saved on paying someone to do the jobs I never would have attempted (over 20 yrs of porsche 911 ownership) without PP.

Pelican can be a toss up for me. I don't really have loyalty to any particular place, just whomever is cheapest and can get it there the quickest. In general this excludes FCP because their turnaround/shipping times can be a bit ridiculous.
However, since I'm not in a rush and the project won't happen for a month or more I'll likely buy some stuff from them. Right now the same Pierburg water pump is $60 cheaper there than Pelican.
Def do the coil packs... use the updated 997 ones. Thermostat should be changed with the pump. Also would probably replace the belt and pulley while you are in the area.
Set of Bosch coil packs are about $200 and it seems like this would be a good proactive thing to do given the age and the fact I'll have the mufflers off. That's what I'm assuming anyway
