Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

As most are aware the spark plugs and ignition coils are a commonly replaced maintenance item and when neglected can lead to an array of issues with the most notable problem being a check engine light for a misfire code.
Leading evidence: 'Replace maintenance item' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace maintenance item' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

To simplify parts sourcing and ordering we've created a kit with everything needed to fully replace these components in your 996.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

As part of my new plugs and upgraded coil packs, I got two new heat shields. Already knew that I would have to space it out so they did not hit the taller coil bolts. Then I took one of the heat shield bolts and got 6mm longer metric SS studs at the hardware store. I put those in the block and backed it up with a SS metric nut so I would get the 5mm space needed. Then heat shields, SS washers and SS nuts to finish it off. Now it is simple to install and remove the heat shields. Just put them on the studs and button it up.
Both Bosch and Beru are OEM brands that manufacturer high quality parts. We do have both versions in stock so if you wish to swap out one brand in a kit for another you can follow the kit items and quantities by adding the individual parts to your cart. As always every part we sell comes with our

I used the old coil bolts to reattach the heat shield. Since the heat shield is bolted to the block and so are the coils, I don't see any need to isolate them from each other, In some parts diagrams Porsche calls them trim pieces, not heat shields. I think they're just for protecting the plugs and coils from road debris and/or water. In any case, I've had them on this way for a couple of years with no issues.
I actually just bought coils and plugs from FCP a couple of weeks ago. I didn't get the kit because I don't see the dielectric grease specified in a repair manual, and I'm not sure it's needed - there was none on the original coils I pulled out, and what failed wasn't where they meet the plug.
