In the mid 90's some Ford, Mercury, and Hondas used a single din cupholder and coin tray combination which appears to be the same size as the CD holder area.

I have seen some others replace the CD holders with the usual storage cubby or, with some modification, Porsche cupholders but I want to know whether this would work.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I recently purchased a 2004 996 Turbo and am thinking of some simple comfort modifications for the interior. My car came equipped with the CD storage in the center console which I do not plan on using. I have searched all the existing threads of what various things people have put in this location, though I have an unorthodox idea I'd like to try. These units are the standard single din size and directly slot into the radio area of most cars though I was unsure if the CD storage area was the standard din size. Assuming it is, will this fit without modification? I do not believe this has done before and while I'll happily trim down a $25 ford part to make it fit, I am not willing to make any permanent modifications to the car itself. Any insight or alternate ideas would be greatly appreciated.
