in my first 30-days of Membership, this site has saved me $400 by NOT having the dealer install my new FABSPEED's and doing it myself AND again yesterday when "Bos" went to the local Stealer and saved me a trip to buy a BOXSTER in Louisville for my girlfriend that the guy swore was a 12k mile gem but turned out to be a repainted semi-turd!

Everyone is reminded, once again, that running a CarFax for another person breaks CarFax rules and is against Rennlist policy.

Spending $20 to save you from spending $50K on a flooded car (or whatever the defect - sorry gant, had to use the example) is a huge bargain and an expensive mistake to make if you didn't do that.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

and I think I finally found a car I'm interested in.
VIN:
(text deleted)
It's a '99 cab with 30,000 miles. I think there are only about 9 entries. Is this a one or two owner car?
Thanks in advance for any help
I would if I had a subscription, but I think for $20 or so you can get a 30 day access. Or maybe one of the guys that posted on another thread boasting that he makes way too much money could help out a fellow soon to be Porsche owner.
The reason it is always the registered users that are doing this is that freeloading is just part of who they are. Their mindset is "why should I pay for service that somebody else did that we can all benefit from".
If you don't like it, then let me be the first to show you the door. So let me get this straight.....you come to a site that is member funded to provide YOU information that you are too cheap to buy on your own and then jump up on your soapbox and try to cover your hipocracy by trying to tell those of that support the very site you used to "steal" your carfax report that we are portraying a sense of superiority? Dude, you really need to get a life and quit trying to justify your shortcomings.
ps. I have no problem with those that choose to NOT contribute to the site. In fact, I have befriended many people on this board that do NOT contribute and have helped out sginificantly so I do NOT bias who I give and do NOT give help to. But I do have a problem with those that do NOT contribute and then abuse the site by violating the very rules set forth for this board.
Please, help me understand the thought process here.
You're getting ready to buy a car that costs many tens of thousands of dollars, but you're too cheap to spend $20 on a 30 day membership that you can use as many times as you want to check out any car that you choose to look at and potentially save you from a very expensive mistake.
I just don't get why there's even the slightest reluctance to buy a $20 membership, when that amount is so far buried in the noise of the total cost of the car that it may as well not exist.
I've really got to get someone to tell me what goes though their mind, so as you're the latest one to try this request, please, I'd appreciate it if you could help me understand the logic.
Wow, you really are a troll. And with that response you have confirmed my point. There is not another person on this board that would presume the way you did when it was you that was at fault. Way to hide behind your keyboard. Off to the ignore bin for you......
Someone just said......
"The reason it is always the reigtered users that are doing this is that freeloading is just part of who they are. Their mindset is "why should I pay for service that somebody else did that we can all benefit from".
That was good enough for me.....after 97 posts and reading that.... I hot-footed over to the membership link and paid my dues. More than glad to help out...this is a GREAT forum and well worth the pittance.
Hey Chuck, welcome to the Membership! We are all here to help each other and share whatever information we can (legally) with others. Glad you see the "value" in contributing to support the site.
in my first 30-days of Membership, this site has saved me $400 by NOT having the dealer install my new FABSPEED's and doing it myself AND again yesterday when "Bos" went to the local Stealer and saved me a trip to buy a BOXSTER in Louisville for my girlfriend that the guy swore was a 12k mile gem but turned out to be a repainted semi-turd!
Long live RENNLIST. I forget how much it cost, but I think joining was cheaper than a set of clear side markers
Sure, I try. First off $20 (actually more like $27 when you add tax for the 30-day subscription - at least that's what it was from mine last month) is $20. Yes, compared to a $45000 car it is a tiny percentage but that fact does not diminish or reduce its' value (things like inflation will do that) so whether it is $20 on $100000 or $20 on $50 it is still $20. If I can save $20 on a $100 purchase I might try to do so depending on how much time (which can be equated to $$) it will take. So, I'm not sure if I see your point. I did have a subscription and used it about 10 times in the last month and I thought in that circumstance it was a good value. There was one last car I found out about 3 days after my sub ran out and that is when I posted on the board.
Perhaps, a more important point is what I did was wrong, plain and simple. I have apologized to the board moderators and promised not to do it again (it is their decision as to whether this is sufficient).
Perhaps another example might help. There are some people who don't report every penny of income sometimes being only very small amounts or perhaps overstate deductions. Others actually brag about getting away paying lower taxes through various "creative" means. I personally find this being very cheap (as well as illiegal) yet some consider screwing the Government out of money to be something almost noble. I just don't get it.
I guess my point is that many people make mistakes and act "cheap" in various ways. It still does not make it right. As much as the tax thing annoys me (I'm thinking in my head that I'm paying my fair share and they should too) I generally do not take the "moral high ground" by lecturing them.
Hope this helps.
I didn't lecture, I'm just trying to understand. Seriously, I don't see how $20 is a big deal when it potentially will save you alot on avoided mistakes.
You really are making a poor comparison when you say that $20 is $20 and it doesn't matter if it's $20 saved on $100K or $20 saved on $100, that really is defective logic, there's no comparison. $100 is disposible cash, so saving $20 on $100 sure is nice, but not a deal breaker. Spending $20 to save you from spending $50K on a flooded car (or whatever the defect - sorry gant, had to use the example) is a huge bargain and an expensive mistake to make if you didn't do that.
Your call.... personally, I call it false economy and a mindset that is destined for pain.
FWIW, I think it's very decent of you to have replied it the way you have, you obviously understood the request to be against the rules here, and even have apologized for it, I for one am not looking for your pound of flesh.....welcome to rennlist, whether paying or not.
Good point. I do not agree with his logic, but I respect that he stated it and he is entitled to feel that way.
I was a little concerned about the pounding he took over this.
There are two issues at play -
i) mooching a free carfax report - not acceptable and an apology was given
ii) unpaid membership - acceptable and within the useage terms of this forum.
Picking on the carfax issue in my mind is legitimate.
Picking on him for being an unpaid member is not.
If this is meant to be a subscription forum, then get rid of the free membership, but don't pound on those who do not subscribe.
I've been here around a month. If I find that I stay here a decent amount of time (and derive value) I'll get a membership, if not, then I'll move on. That's my choice. I am a little concerned by people who I've grown to respect pounding on people for not having a membership. If you don't like it, then lobby to get rid of the unpaid members. Otherwise, stop being pissy and shut up.
Actually, I think we agree about the underlying premise. I would not buy a used car without a carfax, service history, and even paying $100 or whatever for a PPI. Sorry - I didn't mean to imply you were lecturing.
Sounds good. Hey, as I said, either way you're entitled to your beliefs. The reason I asked my question is that the not paying for carfax issue has come up several times in the last few weeks and I've been trying to understand why someone buying a Porsche wouldn't spend $20 on a carfax membership.
