Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I know that good brakes are usually a bit louder. When I get my brakes replaced, my mechanic put in i believe mintex brakes. The receipt I have says orange on it. These are incredibly loud. I used to have loud brakes on my old car, but these sound like a city bus every time I stop. I am doing the 9-10 POC day at streets of willow and will probably change after that weekend when there is nothing left of them. Will this sound go away from normal city/canyon driving? Or will these always sound like this? They work great cold which is good for 2 mile commute, and stop great when hot too. Any other pad to go to after these are done?

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

After looking at pictures in catalogs, I think these are the orange pagids. Should they be this loud? What can I replace these with when not at the track so it doesn't annoy me so much?

POST 4Original post

I have Pagid Orange on the rear when at the track (Pagid Black on the front) and yes, they squeal like a garbage truck when you come to a stop. I swap them for OE (Textar) as soon as I get home. Marc

POST 5Original post

If it's squealing that's the problem - this is caused by the new pads vibrating in the calipers as you brake. Simple fix is to get some high temperature pad goop from AutoZone (sachets on the counter usually), or even some proper COPASLIP from a RACING SUPPLIER or from EBAY ... ... and apply to the backs of the pads before bedding them into the calipers. The high temp compound will help stop vibration, and hence the squealing. Chris.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

They already have that on the back of the pads. I think I'm going to just assume that these pads are no good for city driving. Any suggestions for a quieter pad that will still be stronger than stock for driving in the canyons (below the speed limit of course ) on weekends?

POST 7Original post

honestly, is there any reason to upgrade from stock pads for normal spirited canyon driving?

POST 8Original post

No, not really. If you are doing to do some DE's, then that is a different situation. Even doing DE's with stock pads, I found they actually worked fine until I switch to MPSC's. With the sticker tires, I now get noticeable brake fade. I am installing Porsche Sport pads this weekend. I am curious to find out how loud they are and if I will tolerate them on the street. Unfortunately, there is no 1-pad fits all answer. If all you are giving up is some noise, it is probably a good compromise.
