The deal went extremely well (unlike the horror story on the forum now) and I got a car with 19K, new tires, wheels, changed all fluids to include oil, coolant, brake fluid etc, new spark plugs (I paid for that since it wasn't really needed at 19K) and he paid for the shipping.

Nicolaas: I'm somewhat conservative, so I did a lot of checking sound clips and talking to various folks, and reading all the forums about the different mufflers.

Jon and others recommended Alex and James at Sharkwerks, so they put in the GIAC flash performance, EVO cool air intake, Schnell headers and mufflers...and that's it for now.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
19 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

I posted here a while back and I was immediately set upon for "postem's". To briefly introduce myself again...I'm Chuck, and I just bought a '99 996 C2 from a New York dealer. The car comes in "Iris Blue" which I wasn't too sure until I saw it up close, and I really like it. You have to thank Tim for giving me the "how to" for posting pics, but Tim's warning about mods came too late. Jon and others recommended Alex and James at Sharkwerks, so they put in the GIAC flash performance, EVO cool air intake, Schnell headers and mufflers...and that's it for now. I'm extremely pleased with the deal, the car, and the mods. I met "fasteddie99" on this forum and it turns out he lives about 2 miles away, so were going to be getting together. Since you got all over me for pics, I'm going to see if I can follow Tim's instructions. If they don't come thru, I'm sure you'll holler at me. I have really enjoyed reading the variety of subjects posted in this forum. Chuck
Nicolaas: I'm somewhat conservative, so I did a lot of checking sound clips and talking to various folks, and reading all the forums about the different mufflers. The Schnells are relatively quiet until you get on it...then they come to life. But I also think that the sound is magnified somewhat by the EVO cold air intake kit. I like the Schnells, but I think that the folks who were looking for a more "definitive statement", would probably opt to go with the Fabspeed or GHL's. Fasteddie99's Porsche which is exactly the same as mine...has the GHL mufflers, and I think I like the sound of those better than the Schnell. But like I said...I'm conservative, so the throaty sound comes when I get on it, and that suits me fine. One thing I was really worried about is resonance. Eddie tells me that the GHLs have no resonance, and the same is true of the Schnell's....I can't even hear them when I'm cruising at 65-75. I've read that the Fabspeed's have a tendency to resonate in some installations.

Chuck - Nice ride! Good pics. You car looks SCHWEEET! Since my "mod warning" came too late, you might want to get rid of the "pumpkin look" and install clear side markers, which are only about $30 - $ 35 for the pair! I'm glad the "post a pic" instructions helped.
JohnnyIV...in answer to your question relative to the GIAC Flash...I'm like probably 95% of the responses you see here when the question of "How many horses does it put on the ground" is asked. I wish I had dyno'd the car before and after...but I didn't so my answer will fall into that nebulous and admittedly subjective area of "it really FEELS like I've got more power". Yes it does feel that way...but without actually being able to point to a %HP increase, I'm truthfully being optimistically oriented towards telling you that yes...I think/feel/surmise/guess there is an increase in HP. I had a friend drive it before and after...and he too gave me the same opinion...yes there is a discernable increase. Let me put it this way...I sure don't think it is the same or less responsive than before. Alex (Sharkey) is in a better position to quote statistics and handling "feel", and he cites an 18-25 HP advantage on the '99 C2...and Alex is an honorable fellow....but some of you might think that because he sells the systems, he has a vested interest in going with the available stats. I personally don't think he's a B.S.er As a bottom line...I can honestly tell you that I think the money I spent on all the mods was well worth it. I'd damn sure do it again. The only engine enhancement I have left would be to S/C it...and that would negate the money I spent on the EVO cold air kit. One thing that perplexes me though is the folks on this list who say that you should put the PSS9's or some equivalent on as the first mod. I don't understand why you wouldn't want to do whatever you could to enhance the engine's performance BEFORE you put your money into the suspension. I would agree that if the mods I installed did in fact increase the HP 18-25, as well as the overall performance...that I would also want to address the suspension to handle the increase. But hey....I'm admittedly a newbie, but the logic escapes me...so be gentle with me guys.
I would really love to see one of the forum sponsors or a NorCal performance shop, or maybe a consortium of shops put on a "P-Car Dyno Day" so that they guys could come in and remove the cloud of mechanical mystique that surrounds this subject. I'm sure that such an event would draw a whole lot of P-Car afficianados and be a great success. From a fiscal perspective, the sponsor could write it off to advertising...plus provide booth space for vendors to sell accessories or performance enhancing products/services. Just a thought...but maybe some enterprising company...........
On another note..thanks for the constructive criticism guys. I will lose the "pumpkin look" that gota911 and some others suggested....you're right. And those mods are dirt cheap compared to what I've done so far. Thanks guys. Chuck
