Clutch discs are relatively cheap, we use the Sachs disc whenever one's needed.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My 996 is to be delivered this morning before noon. Then guess what, then no title agencies are open today so all I can do it look at it.
The roads are still pretty messy anyway, So in my mind I can use that as the justification to not drive it.
2000-2002 Aero 996 or spend the extra cash and get a 2001-2002 996 Turbo..im looking hard...prices range from 23k all the way to 34k. I was on an Audi kick...2004 Audi Avant USP, 1999 Audi A4 Avant (gt28 Turbo), 2005 Audi S4 and an 2006 Audi A3. So sold the Audi(s) got a 2007 Saab Aero 2.8T for a daily driver...and now I just need my fun car..
Tough to have your Porsche, and not be able to drive it, but certainly you can take it for a short drive...in your neighborhood. If the temps are above freezing you'll be fine, if you don't stomp on it. Are you near Pgh?
I had an Audi S4 between my 951 and Boxster S, great car but a Porsche is...well...a Porsche!
Have the wifes Allroad for my Audi fix.
I'd go for a 2002+ so you have the updated car.. if you can swing a TT..well thats a no brainier!
Does your state have temporary trip permits? Took 30 days for me to get the title for my Porsche due to the &%@#@#^#$^ previous owner's bank taking so @^&#$^@#$%@#$ long to release the title, but for $5, I could legally drive it for several days (officially just from the point of pickup to the point of delivery) despite having no title and no tags. This permit (purchase online) + paperwork showing proof of purchase is all I needed. You may be able to do something like this to at least get it on the street
Just beware that summer performance tires and snow/ice don't mix. Also, be aware that for best life of the engine, let it warm up to operating temperature before pushing it hard. Hard to resist the temptation, I know.
you should be able to drive with no title as long as you show proof of purchase and be honest that the title is in transfer from the bank -
and dont get stopped

Yes its insured. With out a PA inspection and illegal tags.... That could make for a long next week!
LOL...... Dont you think for a second the thought has not corssed my mind. But becasue of no PA inspection also. That gives them a visual to pull me over. Just one point too risky
It was 50's and sunny going up to 60's...took my top down and went for a drive. It's beautiful today!!
And my IMS bearing stayed intact! Oh..did I say that!!.

You're going to anger the IMS gods with talk like that.
Besides with no temp registration your car insurance may not cover the car. God forbid something happens on that short test drive.
(Bought a new '96 Mustang GT. Left dealer's lot late at night around 10pm. Headed over to my friend's house to show him the car. Driving down residential street and some Honda comes roaring down side street and it is clear the vehicle's not going to stop for the stop sign. I can do nothing but slam on the brakes and hope for the best.
The other driver does the same thing and cars come very close but no contact. Damn young kid in some rice bucket. Almost cost me a new car. And I was just blocks from dealer and having driven off the brand new car.
Another case, more recent is my 25 day old CS hit and destroyed by another vehicle whose driver -- on a Godd*man cell phone -- missed a light and smashed into my car which was several car lengths back from the intersection. Totaled my new CS. Car had temp tags and I added it to my insurance policy day after I bought it. Almost had to turn accident over to my insurance company cause other driver way under insured. Managed to work out a suitable settlement without having to involve my insurance company and without having to sue the other driver and the owner of the car, but I had to threaten to do so, twice.)
Save the 1st drive when you know you have insurance -- in writing with VIN of car on the paperwork -- and you can get temp tags.
Sincerely,
Macster.
Its here! and I have to say it is 10 times nicer than I expected. The original pix I was sent didnt do it justice. Everything is exactly like I was told it was. I have lots of service records. A cover was under the bonnet, the interior was clean. The airbag light is intermittent just like I was told. I have driven it about 7 miles and will not drive it again till it is 100% legal. When it arrived it was very very dirty. I took it right up and gave it a bubble bath and it cleaned up really nice. I does need a clutch but I kinda figured that and have already scheduled it with a local indy along with that LN IMS upgrade.
OMG, Macster!!!!
Your 25 day old Challenge Stradale was totalled? This is the saddest car story I have ever heard. That is one of my favorite cars, it's number 2 on my bucket list.
Tell me it's not so.
Congrats, you are going to love the car!!! Enjoy it in great health, that is both you and the car. HAHA
Stop by for a visit next time you are in the area.
I'll let you take my 996 for a spin if I don't blow my IMS by then.
Congratulations and please post more pics when you can.... Clutch discs are relatively cheap, we use the Sachs disc whenever one's needed. I would make sure the problems not hydraulic in nature before going to the expense of pulling the tranny....
