POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I live in MD and maybe .0001% of the cars I see on the highway are 911s. Despite this I've seen four 911s pulled over by State Troopers for speeding within the last 12 months. The latest one was today. I was heading nothbound on I- 83 and a few cars passed me going around 70 MPH in a 60 zone. One of the cars was a 911 and sure enough, he was the one pulled over by the Trooper. I don't know if the 911 driver got a ticket or a warning, but if it's a ticket he has every right to be pissed.

POST 2Original post

Hey, it's a fact of life, three cars doing the same speed and one of them is a Porsche, the Porsche will get the ticket... hence the need for a good radar detector. Although, I have heard many stories of Porsche owners being pulled over just so that the cop can check out the car.

POST 3Original post

Maybe 911 owners in MD are too cheap to buy a Valentine One.

POST 4Original post

I'm going to say yes! Heading to and from AZ from CA over a long wekend, I managed to attract the attention of CHP in both directions! Both times I was in the fast lane pacing other cars ahead, so I wasn't the fastest thing on the road. First time, on I8 East, the Radar went off as we approached a CHP sitting on the other side of the freeway. He was radar trapping people coming up behind his stationary car from the West. I braked down to the speed limit on the first Ka trigger, but he still decided to pull a U turn across the central divide, and tail me for a mile or two. No joy, as I was always doing the speed limit while his RADAR was on me. Then, coming home on I8 heading West, over the mountains on the descent into San Diego, I was tailing a souped up Dodge thingy. He'd got three or four cars ahead at a single track bridge section, and I was pacing him over a crest when BLEEP the Ka RADAR goes off again. Stationary CHP ignores the speeding Dodge as it passes him, but heads off down his little ramp as he tries to get a fix on me. Again, by that time I was legal, and as I passed him, he started reversing back up his ramp again to stake out anoth poor sod on his way home! No doubt the 996 attracts a great deal of CHP attention, as does the Boxster. The grey Passat wagon on the other hand is super stealthy Chris.

POST 5Original post

They see a fast car and wheater you are driving fast or not, they will put their radar on you, before they aim it at a 95MHP Saturn. But here in the Newport Beach area..Porsches are a dime a dozen..so I don't notice...they actually pull over rice-burners a lot, with young kids in it...

POST 6Original post

Did you guys see the story this week about the woman in Arizona piling up 70 speeding tickets in 5 months? I was thinking P-car of course, but it turned out she was driving a Civic. Unbelievable.

POST 7Original post

I think I am more careful speeding than I was with my previous car.....the P makes a lot of exhaust noise (lovin it) and it keeps me aware of the speed and the "pigs" with radar guns....had a speeding ticket about 1 months ago (220 bucks) overtaking another car......speedtrap!! There were plenty cars at the same speed as mine...but mine was a black Porsche and the others.......regular cars!

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

In my neck of the woods there's no question that the primary reason for radar traps is revenue generation. Traffic safety is nothing more than a pretext for the legalized robbery. To be clear I'm not talking about the guy going a 100 MPH+ in a 65 zone, I'm talking about a guy doing 43 in a 30 or a 78 in a 65 zone. Since this is nothing more than a hidden tax, it could be that the State Troppers believe that guys driving an expensive Porsche will put up a lot less fuss about a $150 speeding ticket, than the drivers of Fords ad Chevies.

POST 9Original post

I have a friend who's a cop and a Porsche guy -- in fact, he bought my black 99 C2 cab a few years back -- and he has asked numerous fellow officers about this. He said while some cops can give a Porsche owner attitude because of the stereotype and the expense of the car, the overwhelming majority aren't really paying attention to the kind of car, they are looking for people driving stupidly.

POST 10Original post

Going to court in VA in Sept for allegedly doing 80 in a 65 in the center lane with an SUV in front of me, a mini van passing me to the left, two cars to my right and a Acura behind me. Not to mention I had the cruise set to 75 for about 30 miles straight and I just tapped the brakes to release the cruise control 30 seconds before my radar detector went off. It could also, be that I'm African American.

POST 11Original post

A cop once told me it had nothing to do with a grudge/attitude, it has to do with an ability to pay. So, if your going to speed, do it behind a guy in a Ferrari.!

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm guessing that this happens quite a bit. An 80 in a 65 when you are in traffic and singled out is exactly what I'm talking about. You will undoubtedly get PBJ and have to pay court costs which are relatively nominal, but it's still a hassle having to make time to fight this BS. Good luck at your court appearance.

POST 13Original post

I get followed by the cops all the time. I'm 35 yrs old but look 25 so I get a police escort where ever I go. I'm glad I didn't get the car in Red or Yellow. I was followed by the cops even more a couple of years ago when I had a Laguna Seca Blue BMW M3. The color really stood out and attracted a lot of attention. The M3 was stolen six months later.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Do you notice a differance in police attention when you drive your S4 vs 996?

POST 15Original post

Yes, definitely, and my S4 is Nogaro Blue (bright blue) very similar to the Laguna Seca Blue on the M3. The S4 is invisible to cops, I guess they think it's an A4. When I need to be someplace quick, I take the S4.

POST 16Original post

It's not that color they're looking for... it's green!!! Has anyone else noticed the stepped up enforcement lately. Here in Cali, the cops don't fight crime anymore, they fixing the budget problems with increased revenue. Quick story. Driving out to Arizona last week and a CHP is around the corner of a 70 MPH highway. I'm in a Honda Odyssey minivan with the whole family while a Lexus SUV passes me up in fast lane. I looked over at her and she's talking on the cell phone. I say to myself, "That's strange, because statistics say that driver's actually drive SLOWER when talking on the phone". Ten seconds later we round the corner and the CHP cruiser tried to pull both of us over. He's behind her, but pointing at me to pull over. I pull over and plea my case that he couldn't have got me at 82 MPH: 1: because I wasn't driving that fast (really wasn't) 2: the Lexus was in front of me and pulling away and unless he's got a 2 headed laser, he didn't get me. 3: if he locked onto the Lexus and then me, he still wouldn't have got me at 82 MPH, because I expecting this kind of **** and once I saw him I was on the binders from probably 77-78 mph to 70. 4: She remained at her constant speed and I was shocked that she didn't lock up after rounding the corner, but she was too engrossed in her telephone call she didn't notice. This particular officer knew what the hell I was talking about and after checking my license and registration out, he approached me with "The lady in the Lexus admitted speeding, but there is some level of doubt with you, so I'm just going to let you go with just a warning". Total BS in my opinion. He knew I was above the speed limit, but didn't know by how much. He knew he locked onto her and was trying to get a 2 for 1 stop. When challenged, he backed down. Revenue, Revenue, Revenue. Sorry about the long "short story"

POST 17Original post

If it were just about the green and not the car, why not just get the speeding Minivan that he clocked passing me, it's not like the minivan owner would not have paid. There's more to it, I believe, it's either the car, me or both. I wasn't even within 8 mph of 80 mph and I knew he was there which makes it even worse!

POST 18Original post

In some places, the cops will single out a Porsche (or a Corvette, or a Viper, or a Ferrari, etc) and in some places they only care who is speeding. In Islamorada, in the FLorida Keys, they look for expensive cars from out of town. Iw as tailed by Four local Monroe County Sheriff's cars the last timeI was down there (a month ago). My V-1 let me know they were up ahead, where they were adn how many. I slowed way down, was in the midst of faster cars, yet they pulled in after me. I even got off the road at one point, and one peeled offf to follow me. I was feeling very paranoid, and aparrently with good reason. A red Boxster blew past, a bit over the limit, and was ignored. I had just purchased the car, so I had the dealer-issued paper tag in place. I guess I looked like fresh meat. It took them a while before they got bored and went back after speeders. In Broward County (Fort Lauderdale) the cops don't seem to "profile" because everyone drives like a lunatic.

POST 19Original post

That's very true, they do look for out of town tags first since it's very likely they(out of towners) wont return to fight the ticket. I fit that profile as well in this case.

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

they look for expensive cars from out of town. Actually I believe that it's any car from out of state since most out of state guys will just pay the fine rather than showing up for the trial. I remember when I was travelling to New Hampshire to meet my future in laws. We were riding in my financee's car with New Hampshire plates and we were stopped by a State Trooper on I - 95 in MD. The Trooper starts to tell me about MD law when he looked at my Driver's license and saw that I was from MD. He then gave me a warning. BTW I was going 77 in a 65 zone.

POST 21Original post

In Central Florida (around Lake Okeechobee) the cops (sheriffs and local cops) really look for out-of-area cars. Porsches are about as common as conservative democrats, so it pays to really pay attention to the V1. My boss got nabbed as he was zooming thru in his girlfriend's Mercedes. That was another car that somewhat stood out amongst the tomato trucks and 4x4 pickups full of coon hounds. He said the radar detector (an Escort) never sounded - I said they probably didn't use radar - but how can you fight a Good Old Boy whose favorite movie is Deliverance? He tried to take it to a Ticket Clinic, but they wouldn't touch it, and he goes thru the town once every few months on his way to the west coast (of Florida), so he paid. I suspect most small towns are this way.

POST 22Original post

[QUOTE=Nicolaasdb]They see a fast car and wheater you are driving fast or not, they will put their radar on you, before they aim it at a 95MHP Saturn. QUOTE] Nope, they'll try for the fast mover over the fast looker.

POST 23Original post

Next time you need a cop for a burglary report or some other non-speed related situation, be sure to call him a pig to his face. And you better brush up on the definition of "speedtrap" in California, because what you describe ain't it. If you're seen overtaking another car, guess which car is going faster - it's you. I speed like virtually everyone else in a Porsche, but if I get caught and I'm guilty, it's because I'm guilty, not what I'm driving.

POST 24Original post

I've never had anything other than a negative experience with any cop, whether for a speeding ticket, or when I called them to serve and protect me and/or my property. I have negative respect for them as a group. Bill (haven't been caught yet in a Porsche)

POST 25Original post

I was totally picked on one night on I66. I was the only car on the road cruising at 65mph when I spot the trooper's lights coming up on me really fast. Then I notice that he's pacing me once he caught up. I wasn't worried because Im thinking that Im with the bound of the speed limit(55). Then he decide to get behind me and pull me over for going 65 in a 55mph zone!! That ****' cop was something else. That cop was a joke, I can tell he hated the fact that I was in a 911 and he was in had to ride in his POS so he had to write me a ticket. Hey, thats life....losers like that are everywhere. Unfortunately, I have too many stories like this on I66 in my last porsche. Maybe because it was red???

POST 26Original post

So you get another in Yes I Am Speeding Yellow?!??!?!?

vove, That sucks! I usually hang out around an indicated 65mph on 66, as well - now I'm a little worried. I figured that given my speedo is off by a few, and going an indicated 10 over on such a big highway would drastically reduce my likelihood of being pulled over (still, I'll admit, 65 is more than 55). Glad to hear you made it out alive! Well, unticketed, at least Justin

[QUOTE=TD in DC]You wouldn't have a problem if you weren't ridin' dirty . . . Ridin Lyrics Chamillionaire <<You have the right to remain silent That means "SHUT UP">> They see me rollin' They hatin' /QUOTE] Proof positive that you can't spell crap without rap.

POST 31Original post

TD, I was ridin' dirty that night but the trooper was too caught up with the bling on my whip to notice. The trooper was captivated by the fikse with hoosiers on them. He kept asking me if it was legal to have slicks on for the street and I assured him that it was totally legal.

POST 32Original post

You're 10 over the limit. I've driven thousands of miles at 7 or 8 eight over and never been looked at twice. Try dialing it back a few mph. But I am curious what crystal ball you use that told you he hated the fact that you were in a 911..............

POST 33Original post

Good question. I guess because I have driven around 70mph with my beater all year and they just overlook it. Also, I saw hate in his eyes...lol.

POST 34Original post

Gee, and my experience has been the opposite, particularly when in the Porsche. A moron from Ohio rear-ended me sitting on a freeway off ramp and the CHP who did the report got there quickly and got me going quickly. Then there was the moron in the Chevy who backed into me after trying to cross several traffic lanes and deciding she couldn't make it. The motor cop who watched that fiasco had me stand by while he wrote her. I have negative respect for whiny Porsche drivers who admit to busting limits and then **** and moan about getting a ticket.
