Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. This is not a probability of success.

What is most disturbing and catches my attention is the fact that K and N had to put in the disclaimer that the use of their product might void the Porsche warranty.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So guys to those who have the K&N CAI installed what is there experience during rain? Anybody driven their 996s while rain storm? The design doesn't seem to rain resistant?

POST 2Original post

Doesn't even need to rain to have problems... Issues all across the board. Made my MAF blow. Starts with with ABS and PSM Off light to go on. Then you'll get a CEL... Stay away from that thing.

POST 3Original post

This was fairly extensively discussed on 8/11/06 in this forum...suggest you go look at that thread entitled K and N...or something like that. Do a search on K and N and you should come up with it.

POST 4Original post

i drove my car in one of the worst rain storms i ever saw and everything was normal. hell ive gone in a carwash a bunch of times and everythings fine

POST 5Original post

After I had mine installed, I put a towel over the filter when I washed it as I did not know how much water got in there from just a basic wash. When I took the towel out it was soaked, just as an FYI.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well I washed my car and noticed water in the engine compartment with some water over the filter. Not sure how much water would cause problems.

POST 7Original post

I told people that water falls directly on the filter from being parked in the rain and car washing almost 2 months ago. No one even responded to the post, IIRC.

POST 8Original post

I think what we're seeing here is that the folks who have already bought the K and N are defending their purchase...which is fine, and for the most part, it probably functions just great...except for the somewhat questionable horsepower claims. What is most disturbing and catches my attention is the fact that K and N had to put in the disclaimer that the use of their product might void the Porsche warranty. No one puts in a disclaimer unless there's a potential liability issue that they're trying to cover themselves on. In this case, the disclaimer suggests you put your original intake air system back on if you intend to run in "inclement weather" or it could void the Porsche warranty. Why would anyone want to go through that hassle after spending over $200 on a product "upgrade"??? Why did K and N find it necessary to put the disclaimer on their product in the first place? You tell me. I'd just as soon go with a product that doesn't have a disclaimer on it...and I'd certainly be in touch with Porsche to ask if it actually would void the warranty. Hell, you have enough trouble trying to get things fixed under warranty. Why would you want to subject yourself to another potential speed bump?

POST 9Original post

I drove mine last weekend in moderate rain and had no problems.

POST 10Original post

I believe water only gets on intake when it's parked in the rain.
