Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that report identifying a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'mass air flow sensor' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'mass air flow sensor' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check engine code' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Also, while getting used to my new car and the shifting, I have stalled a few times and been a little sloppy changing gears.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am looking for a 1999 996 owners manual. This particular year is not on Renntech and I'd really like one for my particular year. Where can I find one?
Also, while getting used to my new car and the shifting, I have stalled a few times and been a little sloppy changing gears. The check engine light came on. What are the chances that I did
serious
damage to my car by learning how to drive it? I am so worried about this I can't sleep.
Also, how do I use the resources at Autozone to determine the Check Engine code.
Please help me on any of the above.
Just pull into the parking lot, walk inside, & ask one of the salepeople
if they would read the check engine code in your car.
I have done it 2-3 times.

It depends upon what you mean by being sloppy with changing the gears. Did you miss a downshift? For example, did you mean to go from 6 to 5 but go into 3 instead, or want to go from 5 to 4 but go to 2 instead? Probably nothing, but it is a good idea to check it out. Does it sound fine? If so, you most likely are fine.
dont worry... five days after I bought my used 01, the CEL came on ... turned out to be faulty MAF. However, i had been driving stick for ten years. Likely not related to your shifting.
If it sounds fine you are "probably" all right, but you really need to be careful with shifting. That is the number one way to blow your engine.
Just remember that your shifter is self centering. Whenever you shift, let the shifter pop back into neutral and then pull/push it gently into the correct gear. Do not try to shift directly from 5 to 4 or any other gears.
