Not sure where Monroe is, but if it's near one of the major cities then it's probably a decent price.

Suggestion

If that estimate includes repairing the curb rash then maybe it's not so bad (actually then its pretty good), but even if someone took a hammer to your quarter panel, it wouldn't be more than $400 or so to repair it (unless they broke through the metal).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Been taking out the car even though it's cold. I just couldn't let the car sit out until spring, what with the new suspension. Noticed a ding right at the top of the rear wheel well, at the lip. Some brainless A#@*#le just could not control their door. Aaaaaaaaargh!!!!! Multiple DE's, and not a mark. Some idiot in a parking lot. Maybe I'm the idiot for parking where it can get dinged. It's just a car. It's just a car. Deep breath. It's just a car. Aaaaaaaarghhhhh!!!

POST 2Original post

If only that worked.....the day after buying my car in Virginia, I hit "Tail of the Dragon" on the way home to Texas. I get to the top & go inside the shop & when I walk back to my car I see a rock ding almost the size of a dime in my drivers door where the paint got knocked off....

POST 3Original post

Palting - If the paint is undamaged, maybe the Dent DOctor or someone like that can get it out without harming the paint. Remember: It's just a car. It's just a car. Deep breath. Yessssss, it's just a car!

POST 4Original post

We have had very good results with a local paintless dent removal company. They do all of the local Porsche dealer's work as well. Usually around 35 bucks a panel to go over and remove the dent/dents. It is pretty cool the dents that they can get out which you wouldn't think they could.

POST 5Original post

Same exact thing just happened to me, scrape and a small dent right where the rear bumper meets the quarter panel. What a pain in the ***.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, guys. Just had to rant. The local Porsche dealership has no connection with the paintless dent removal peple, but the local Dodge dealer does. Isn't that weird? Pobably has to do with trucks that do double duty as work and fancy vehicles.

POST 8Original post

Sorry to hear that, dents from inconsiderate folks drive me nuts too. $35 for a panel ?! That's a great price! The paintless dent removal company at my local dealer quoted me $100 per dent. I've been resisting the urge to get jacked, but the 3 dents on mine are eating away at me -- one on the roof (dunno how it got there); one on the front driver side light arch (dunno either); and a ripple on the driver door.

POST 9Original post

price is usually for panel up to a certain amounts of dents in a panel. As most of the work is accessing the metal.

POST 10Original post

If you schedule the appointment through a Dealer, they will add at least a $40 surcharge. You can schedule these appointments directly with the repair guy, and they will meet you at a mutually agreed upon location.

POST 12Original post

I once wrote a tongue in cheek article for our local PCA chapter. Now qouting from "Free Therapy for All 911 Drivers": Rule #6: NO MATTER WHERE OR HOW YOU PARK, YOU WILL EVENTUALLY GET A DOOR DING! Its only a matter of time. You may feel better to ding it yourself the first time and get it over with. It probably took me 30 years of driving to learn this. Life became more enjoyable when I learned to take these little things in stride and move on. The Dent Doctor (aka Wizard) is worth every dollar. For more cost effective use of his service, you may wait until you have a few dings to remove. Cheers,

POST 13Original post

Sorry to hear about your ding. I had the wierdest ding on my car. When it was two years old, I noticed a very slight ding on TOP of the left rear wheel arch. No way it got dinged by someone's door. Either the car was delivered to me with the ding and I just never noticed, or a pine cone landed on it from the pine tree just outside my garage during one of the rare moments when I had the car parked there. I had it removed by the Porsche dealer's ding guy for $150. The paintless ding remove process is just wonderful.

POST 14Original post

Dropped my car off this morning to get the dent fixed. $650 to repair and repaint the quarter panel. I'm also having them refinish one of my rear rims that has some curb rash. Without my baby for about a week.... arrrg!

POST 15Original post

OUCH! on the cost and... OUCH! OUCH! on not having your "beloved" around for a week.

POST 16Original post

Where the hell did you take it? The best hot rod shops would only charge $350 to repair that. Did you go to the dealer or something?

POST 17Original post

I had two estimates, both were just about the same. I not sure how you can make that statement without having seen the damage. There's actually some minor paint damage to the bumper as well, but I'm not having them repaint the bumper, just put some touch up paint on it.

POST 18Original post

If that estimate includes repairing the curb rash then maybe it's not so bad (actually then its pretty good), but even if someone took a hammer to your quarter panel, it wouldn't be more than $400 or so to repair it (unless they broke through the metal). Maybe they see Porsche and they see dollar signs. Where on the bumper is the scratch. I'm assuimg it's near the dent, no? I would think they'd be blending onto that anyways, and wouldn't need to go the touchup paint route (though even if they do, no big, what a competent shop can do with touchup paint is amazing). EDIT: oh wait, you're in NY. Not sure where Monroe is, but if it's near one of the major cities then it's probably a decent price. Labor intensive work is a lot more money up north.

POST 19Original post

I'm just outside of NYC, I actually commute there daily, and yes the price of everything is much higher. Manhattan Motor Cars gets $165/hr labor rate.

POST 20Original post

Riad, I feel your pain. But after a while, it's not really pain, it's just a pain in the ****. Since I park on the streets in NYC when I go out at night, I always have a little love hug on the bumpers when people park and tap. I don't mind that so much since the bumpers are plastic and I usually repaint them every couple of years and it generally looks flawless (Pepe Porsche directed me to some shop in Ossining that does phenomenal work). So anyway, I'm dropping my car off at the garage in my building last night, open the trunk to grab some parcels, close it, and under the fluorescent (all revealing) light, I noticed a minor scratch about 4 inches long right on the hood. I nearly passed a kidney stone. But following the sage advice here, I breathed deep, counted to three, and inspected it more closely. It's mostly in the clearcoat and I think/hope that some rubbing compound and a good going over with Zaino will fix it. My goodness, we P-car drivers are a crazy bunch, eh? Reminds me of when I would get brand new white sneakers as a kid and walk around as gingerly as I could so as to avoid a stain. Nuts. Plain nuts.

POST 22Original post

This is why I'm glad mine came with plenty of rock chips. Its used, the paint is no longer perfect...so I'm always in DILYSI mode and park wherever is convenient.

POST 23Original post

No way I could imagine buying one of these cars new & ever driving it. Mine was bought with rock chips & such....otherwise it would never leave the garage!

POST 24Original post

Normal rock chip marks don't bother me, mine's got em. It's a 2004 with 36,000+ miles on it, it's going to have chips, but this was an ugly dent down to the metal.

POST 25Original post

I understand Riad......I was just kinda thinking out loud (on the Forum, lol).

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've get the perfect parking spot for you. Right by COSTCO, just beside that 1970's two door road yacht, whose door is bigger than the 911, driven by a drunk. . C'mon, gravedgr. I can believe not feeling bad about rock chips. MY driving put them there. I don't have a "bra" and never will. But, unless you've got a 911 with rusting side panels, you've got to feel a little stab in the gut if you see an obvious dimple in the middle of a panel.

POST 28Original post

I am sooooo glad my P is a facelifted 99 996...because if it were any newer and got dings, it would bother me much more! I was thinking about this the other day when I saw the first ding ...the car who did it left already oherwise i would have kicked a huge dent in his door!

POST 29Original post

No matter how old or new the car it's still annoying. Someone who was careless damaged your property! However, I try to put it all in perspective. I live in one of the most densely populated parts of the country, and I drive her everyday into one of the largest cities in the world - one little ding in 2 years is the price of admission. Rob

POST 30Original post

Now when you put it like that , I would call that pretty darn lucky......

POST 31Original post

Having a P car gets me in shape because I always end up walking the full length of the parking lot from the places where nobody else park. My typical "spot" is tight to the right side of the far right space on a line. That way: 1) I only risk one side of the car 2) As I don't have to park in the middle of the space, I give the idiots more space to open their doors 3) As I'm on the passenger side of the idiots car there may not be an idiot opening their door on my side. Still.. Every time I come back to the car and find that someones parked beside me I check it.. the question is, what do you do when you get back and find the ding, and have a pretty good idea of who it is? Leave a note and tell them they are an idiot? Keith

POST 32Original post

I had a paintless dent guy come by yesterday and he fixed a small dimple in my fender I made while backing the M3 out of the garage and tipping the mountain bike over..... Since there were 4 of us there my price was $50 bucks total..... -Eli

POST 33Original post

Picked up the car today and it looks perfect. Only problem is that they repainted my bumper and they weren't supposed to. But they were supposed to refinish the rim and didn't do that... I have no clue what they were thinking, but I'm not paying for the bumper so it is what it is.

POST 34Original post

Lemme gues riad, they never actually gave you an estimate for the wheels and with the bumper you asked them to touch it up and not repaint it though they didn't write that part down either? It seems even the best body shops, if you don't watch him write it down on the slip it'll either not happen at all or too much will happen.

POST 36Original post

Yes, the turbo twist rims are painted. Then can bondo them just like any other body part, then repaint them. They look brand new for about $150.

POST 37Original post

I have the work order in writing. Clearly states to just do the quarter panel, and the right rear rim.... who knows what they were thinking.
