Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

If it looks good...maybe you would recommend a place for a PPI too?

Ucube...Yes, if you don't mind running by and checking it out, i'd really appreciate it.

I'll try not to beat it to death during the test-drive.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

That link didn't work, so I did a search on eBay for the item number and it came up.
Can someone in the Houston area go by and check out this car for me? I'd really appreciate it.

if the link didn't work, it's ebay item number: 4627538535

thanks,

Mark - Nice looking car. BTW, the fornt tires look to be in good shape. However, the rear tires are toast! They are almost down to the wear bar. I had Pirelli P-Zeros and the rear tires lasted only 10K. Take that into consideration when discussing price, if it gets that far. Good Luck!
That link didn't work, so I did a search on eBay for the item number and it came up. That M-B dealership is 20 minutes from my neighborhood, and I drive by it everyday going to work. PPI can be done at the nearby Porsche dealer (Momentum Porsche) 10 minutes down 59 frwy. Let me know if you still need someone to go give it a once-over.
Sorry, yep putting in the number worked this time.
I was gonna offer to look at it, but since I live in the Woodlands it
is pretty far.....as you pass by it everyday I'll let you do
the honors if he still wants someone to.

I will PM you with my email address and phone number.

No problem, is tomorrow soon enough? I'll try not to beat it to death during the test-drive.
Just out of curiosity, Mark, isn't Daniel Schmitt & Co in St. Louis? They didn't have any nice 996s to your liking?
Tomorrow will be great.
DES is here in St. Louis. They had one (sold it) red 996 but it didn't have full leather and they really like there porsches. There were asking too much.
Also, I've never been real crazy about them. Everytime I go there, there is a different group (sales guys seem to last a few months) of 20 year old's with slick suits from Mens Whorehouse trying to close, close, close.

Just got back from checking out the car. For a near-7 year-old car, the int/ext are in very good condition. There are a couple of very slight dimples on the driver door (from door dings) and some usual minor rock chips on the front bumper, but that's it. The guards red paint is still very deep and lustrous all around. No signs of paintwork or collision damage. Not that I'd have any reason to suspect since this is an M-B dealership in an upscale part of town.
Interior is consistent with its age with some wear, but no tears or rips. Leather seats front and back are in good shape, and the suede-like headliner is perfect. All electricals work properly; the only flaw is the display fading a little on the CDR-220 faceplate. The engine bay is clean and the engine idles normal. No oil leaks on the ground, as far as I can tell. The clutch feels good and the gear engages cleanly. No major mechanical issues readily detectable from my test-drive. From the service book stamps, the car was originally delivered in GA in '99, then serviced in SC in '01, NC in '03, and NC in '04. These were all the stamps in the book, but may not be inclusive of its actual service history. This was a trade-in by a local owner here in Houston, I was told. The owner didn't provide complete service records, however.
The only thing that puzzled me was the engine idling sound. It had stock cans, but sounded quite different from my '99 (also stock except with large tips). This one purrs and whirs; while mine hums and drones quite loudly. Weird. All in all, I'd have no qualms buying it if the PPI checks out. Although the asking price is a bit high IMO at $39,900 even with low miles at 43K. It doesn't have Litronics, but does have PSM.
Hope this info helps. Good luck!
i saw this car in a previous post..thought that you might be interested. I dont know anything about the car other than it looks nice.

Thanks UCUBE...nice summary. I think I can get if for quite a bit less then the asking price.
jcalhoun, you are correct. That is a VERY nice 996. I actually emailed the seller about it a few weeks ago and he is pretty firm on the price. I'm hopeing to spend mid $30's when it's all said and done.
UCUBE, can you PM me your phone number. I wouldn't mind asking you a few questions about the car.
Thanks,
Mark
