Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

My next step was to remove and clean the throttle body and MAF and poke around in there with the air box out to see if there are any obvious vacuum leaks, but if anyone has other recommendations I'd love the input.

I'm thinking I'll still clean the throttle body and potentially replace the MAF proactively (100k miles on the car, no record of previous replacement).

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Curious to see if anyone has any epiphanies about this one... Was driving my 2003 C4S home from being parked at the airport for a few days (~1hr, highway all the way) and on the way I got the ABS Failure / PSM Failure light partial limp mode (still drivable). Stopped by my local specialist and they scanned it but didn't give me a print-out... cleared it and said bring it back if it does it again. I drove it for a few weeks and no issues until I got another CEL. Scanned it with my cheap-o OBDII reader and got...
Cleared and decided to drive it one more day before taking it back to the shop. Drove great for an hour to my office -- no noticeable issues at all -- until it began stalling at stoplights in the last mile. Very rough idle and wouldn't stay alive without me nursing the skinny pedal to keep RPM up. Eventually I got the ABS Failure / PSM Failure lights + a CEL and *real* limp mode (idle only), so I parked it. Turns out this time I got a different code...
As usual, the forums have been an amazing resource, and I armchair diagnosed it to being either a massive vacuum leak, an IAC valve issue, a MAF issue, or a throttle position issue. I had recently disconnected the battery when I installed a new 997 GT3 shifter assembly, and I wondered if the TPS adaptation had gotten erased or corrupted in the process... so I re-ran the adaptation and it seems to run fine around the block, but I was nervous to try to drive it all the way home so left it in the garage at the office. I am trying to decide if I should try to drive it home or get it towed... Any strong opinions either way? Any alternate possibilities I should consider?
My next step was to remove and clean the throttle body and MAF and poke around in there with the air box out to see if there are any obvious vacuum leaks, but if anyone has other recommendations I'd love the input.
Thx in advance!
Could be your MAF. First check that the wire is firmly attached. A bad or unconnected MAF will generate ABS and PSM lights. It also would make rough idling but no effect on higher RPMS.
MAF sensor is notorious for TPS/PSM problems, but, but it could have just needed the throttle position adaptation after disconnecting the battery. I would do the adaptation again and then drive home and see what happens.
I re-ran the throttle adaptation a second time and drove it home with no sign of any issue whatsoever. Without a clear failure to know what I'm fixing and when it is fixed, it's hard to determine what to do now... I'm thinking I'll still clean the throttle body and potentially replace the MAF proactively (100k miles on the car, no record of previous replacement). However, it's a bit of a guessing game and I'd prefer not to end up stranded by a ghost issue by doing nothing again and crossing my fingers. Given the fault codes above, any other proactive maintenance that would be worth investigating?
