Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Outcome without a verified action link

Fixed it, plastic piece #2 has the smaller end facing forward, and switch #1 somehow had a broken wire.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Two questions: 1. What is switch number 1 for? 2. The number two plastic piece, what should the orientation of it be? It can swivel. This morning the back up lights worked, but after I backed out it wouldn't go into drive. I had to take the top off (like pic) and move the plastic piece to where the large curved edge was down. Then it went into gear correctly, but now the backup lights don't work again! (This pic is not my car, it's from a youtube vid)

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Oh, to clarify, when I initially fixed the backup light switch (under switch 1) yesterday, when I tested it I had the center console off. So #2 wasn't touching switch #1.

POST 3Original post

That plastic piece has a specific orientation. Of course I don't remember which because I'm old. The shifter won't work properly until that piece is oriented correctly. Trial and error I guess. You'll know when it's set right.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Fixed it, plastic piece #2 has the smaller end facing forward, and switch #1 somehow had a broken wire. Fixed the wire, oriented the plastic piece correctly, voila, it works. Btw, all the pics/videos I saw had #2 going to the back. Doing that, it won't shift into manual mode.
