I didn't even have to use the hatch to get the wheels in the rear seats.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Well ... you apparently CAN fit four rims and tires inside a Targa without using the passenger seat. (This would not work in a coupe or cab.)
One rear in each rear seat (with seats up) leaning forward slightly, front and spare in the hatch, and other front in the trunk. These are 17" rims with snows ... I'm not sure the big fat 18" rears will work in this configuration.
When we do it for real this weekend, I'll post a photo, but I'm almost certain it will work. The Targa ... the world's most practical 911 ...
I've had 4 17" snows in my C4, but using passenger seat. The 18" summer would not fit in all at once, so had to drive twice to pick em up.
No room in the boot for a wheel in a C4 though
Gregg, thanks. Trace (the Porschedog) is an amazing little guy. He is allowed to snot up the 996 windows, but the Werewife still has to take her shoes off to get inside.
Okay, so here's how it went down ...
Two front rims/tires in passenger side rear seat.
One rear rim/tire in driver's side rear seat.
One rear rim/tire under the front lid.
Spare in the hatch.
There is no way to get a rim and tire in the hatch with the seats up, but the spare fits neatly in there.
If it wasn't for the spare, this would almost certainly work in a coupe, dunno about a cab. I didn't even have to use the hatch to get the wheels in the rear seats.
One more piece of advice ... bring some good music unless you want to hear tires wrapped in plastic squeaking against each other and the leather the entire time.
but who the hell is going to f up their full leather interiors with dirty wheels???...have your wife follow you with the wheels in her SUV ( or a friend or good neigbor....)
What's a wife? Oh ... those two women who used to be married to me. (Not at the same time, I'm not a Mormon.)
About 15 years ago, one of 'em kicked my 911SC in the door when she was picking up my son shortly after we were divorced; he was 5 at the time, we met her at the beach in Naples FL and as we were doing the (amicable) exchange, this beautiful tall blonde who was about 20 and looked like a supermodel goes strolling by in a thong bikini, and my son says, "Oh, look, Mom, that looks just like Daddy's new girlfriend." She LOST it. Just a minor ding, though. My second wife was much more Porsche-tolerant, but she did freak out when she came home unexpectedly and caught me baking one of my freshly-painted Fuchs rims in the oven one afternoon. LOL
The Targa was just sold to a Rennlister from Canada, he also wanted the rims and snows but was driving the car from Boston to Toronto. This was done to avoid shipping the wheels. They were in plastic bags. I suspect he will post a photo when he gets home. He's on the road right now.
