Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My horns don't work. After a search here in the bat computer I have learned that it is common for the horns to fail. I also learned the alarm and door lock horn is a different horn than the "*******" horn. Is this true? becasue the alarm horn works. in alarm AND when I lock the car. I have, Checked horn button funtions-good it clicks the relay Checked the relay-good swapped it with a known good one Tried to check the horns but I am not removing the bumper cover till I have new ones. They are only 30$ for the pair at pelican.... Does everyone concure I am on the right track here?

POST 2Original post

Boy was it a relief to read that, the title had me really wondering! I do belive the horns make differant sound, so could be separate. I thought these cars were more apt to blow when not wanting than to not blow when desired - ok I am sounding wierd now

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7233935

no that seems to be a common issue too. Thats a spring in the steering wheel from what I read. It appears their are actually 3 total horns... The "*******" horn operated from the steering wheel is comprised of a low pitch and a high pitch horn located under the front bumper cover just offset center to the passenger side of the car. Then the alarm and door lock horn that is one unit near the battery

POST 4Original post

At the end of the service manual you'll find a list of items and a diagram showing where things are. Position 1dM which is the front right is where the two tone horns are listed as being. Look under wiring diagrams then welding points. Looking forward they are on the right hand side forward of the headlights below to the left in the bumper region.

POST 5Original post

The only time I use my horn is when I'm on a fun run and accidentally hit the horn when I'm behind someone going through the twisties.... Whooops! sorry!

POST 6Original post

Horns are good for safety checks Only used mine twice and that was just fooling around and once trying to tell birds to get off my driveway so I could park.

POST 7Original post

Try this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBb8dSkZHpQ

POST 8Original post

My horns stopped functioning at some point over the summer as well. I haven't looked into it all yet, not even to check the fuse. Is the relay location listed in the owner's manual or will I need a service manual?

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7234551

They are required for state inspection. Besides. You let them slip, then something else breaks that you dont want to fix. Next thing you know the car is hodge podge of non working accessories. Besides the two horns were only 50$ with next day shipping.

they may be unplugged - I laughed at the accidental blowing... thats a great newbie trick at the track....done it and seen it done many times

POST 13Original post

I hear there's a special GT2 horn that we can retrofit to our cars. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Anyone? Ed?

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

They were DOA when i got the car. I woudl say one failed and the other one followed. I dont its wireing Yeah. I thought about this but I cant get my hand up there to feel around.

POST 16Original post

I have something like this on my RV... it's pretty effective. I highly recommend it.

POST 17Original post

The police sirens and flashing lights behind me normally get everyone out of my way

POST 18Original post

Did previous owner disconnect them beacuse bushings in steering wheel were worn and the horn kept going off?

POST 19Original post

Quotes source post: 7236043

+1. Check the fuse. If bushings were worn, the fuse probably came out. -td

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No, checked the fuse and the relay. when the fuse is out the relay will not even click. I might go climb under to tonight and see if I can see the horns

POST 21Original post

Somebody did a nice write up about installing the Griot garage air horns. Might want to do a search of that

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So many times people dont report back when they have fixed an issue. It is certainly the horns. I managed to get an VOM on the wires at the horn, Steady 12V when the button is pressed. and when I was bumping them around they would give a small "hey that tickeles toot"

POST 23Original post

oh oh I know try a Q-Tip.... maybe they are just plugged...... not the car...

POST 24Original post

Quotes source post: 7235218

I had both horns fail in a 6 month period. First the high one, then the low one. Anyway, it's the where they are located and how they're oriented. Down low facing forward, they catch a lot of rain and whatever. It's possible if you don't use the horn much, to lose one at a time and not realize it. When my first one went, I didn't even know. The dealer found it during some normal maintenance. When the 2nd one went, I heard the strange sound it made with only 1 horn working.

POST 25Original post

I disconnected the fuse on my horn because the spring lost its 'spring'. I have found that a well maneuvered finger aimed at the oncoming works just fine

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7238428

LOL..... Go the first comment about the car today. It was called a "cute little car" The 928 was never called a "cute little car" the most common one for the 928 was. "Wow, that is a beautiful car, what is that?"
