The rear quarters should be the same on the 2002's so the only difference is the rear bumper which i will replace eventually anyhow.

As for the 997 conversion, one of my very important clients has his heart dead set on doing the 996 to 997 conversion (maybe i can scoop up his litronics after he does it), so i'm looking around for best possible solutions.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

For those of you who have done this already, are you happy with the results, and more importantly, which OEM source did you use for the parts? As is my understanding i will need: 1) Fender Left and Right Side 2) Headlight Trays Left and Right 3) Litronic Lamp 2002+ Left/right 4) The wiring harness 5) An amplifier for the litronic bulbs (not sure what the dealer meant by this, but i'm assuming he means the ballasts?) 6) The little plastic bit that sits between the bumper and lights And some kind of front bumper which will no doubt also burn a hole in the wallet. EDIT: I'm assuming a similar process is involved in converting to 997 style front end, has anyone tried to see if the 997 OEM pieces will bolt up to a 996 without obscene custome work?

POST 2Original post

I have done it, but my body shop did all the work, they do LOTS of these and know how to do it perfectlt. The 997 front is NOT as easy...requires much more work.

POST 3Original post

Dead, I did the face lift on my race car when I updated it to a 2004. Your list seems right. It's a very easy conversion although I didn't deal with liths or the wiring harness. I just built jumpers between the old wiring and the new. Not something I would do on a street car. Mine turned out great. If you like working on your car you should do it yourself. It's a fun and easy project. For parts I got some prices from the discount places but ended up buying from our local dealer. They really support the Porsche community here and came very close to the discount prices so it was a no-brainer. I actually have an extra new fender in my trailer. I think it came with a small blemish on it so the dealer said he'd sell it to me cheap as a spare. I'd have to look at it to see how bad the blemish is but I'd sell it if you're interested. I don't plan to crash soon and I'm pretty sure I'm going to jump to a cup car this winter. Anybody looking for a slightly modifed 996? Jim

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

how "slightly modded is ur 996"...any chance u'd sell me ur front facelift stuff and i'll give u all my current 99 stuff (and both bumpers? ) I love working on cars and since i have acess to just about every tool i can think i'd need, i'll undertake it on my own. As for the 997 conversion, one of my very important clients has his heart dead set on doing the 996 to 997 conversion (maybe i can scoop up his litronics after he does it), so i'm looking around for best possible solutions. So far i've found a kit but the fitment looks mediocre at best (bad fiberglassing)

POST 5Original post

Why not just sell/trade the 99' for an 02"+? I say this because it is going to a few thousand just to convert the front. The rear quarters and bumper are also different on the 02+. Considering that you won't be able to make the cost back up in resale, I think you are much better off just getting a later car. This also give you the advantages of getting a bigger/more powerful engine, stiffer chassis and a better suspension.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

^ thanks, but i've already invested a significant amount of money in this car, but more importantly, my time and effort. I'm just attached to this particular car and it will be getting a supercharger in the near future (which i will then mod even further) and possibly some engine internal work. The rear quarters should be the same on the 2002's so the only difference is the rear bumper which i will replace eventually anyhow. Besides, the next car i own will either have an RS in its name...or two turbos and some rotors

POST 7Original post

I love the look of the 02+ but i don't see how people can justiry spending a few grand on it?? Essentially the only thing you are changing is the headlights.... I dont know the exact price of the conversion but im assuming it's somewhere in the vicinity of $3k. I can think of a thousand things i would rather to do for that amount of money as opposed to new headlights. Not to mention, someone who buys your car is going to think you were in a wreck... With that being said, i would definitely do it if i had a front end collision or money was burning a hole in my pocket! to each his own, Keith

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

^ yeah i think 3k ought to do it, since labour isn't an issue. As for the next guy who buys my car....probably won't be a next guy, or it'll go to a friend. I've toyed with the idea of selling my car...but it is still a blast to drive and i'm far too attached to it. As for the headlights, yeah its not a functional mod, but i like my cars to be "just so" and since i also enter it in quite a few local car shows, it wouldn't hurt to have a little bit of bling bling y0 body work done, since most of those judges probably don't even know what the hell an adjustable control arm is, and couldn't find an underdrive pulley with both hands.

POST 9Original post

oh ho, what is Omar upto Now? Try Ebay to Score some Parts.

POST 10Original post

I did it....not myself though......I bought fenders, turbo bumper and headlights from someone who tought it was an easy job.....(paid 1300 bucks)....but I had to spend at least another 1400 in parts! My 99 had litronix...so I sold them for 850 on ebay...fenders and bumper went for 650...so in the end I made more from the sale of my old parts then I paid for the "new" parts. I paid $1100 for the install and paint job...so in the end I paid about $2300....AND IT IS WORTH EVERY PENNY!!

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

tried that once..some russian punk almost made off with 2G's till i sent one of my ukranian contacts to er..politely request it back. Some rennlisters also helped me get in touch with the local PD and track him down. Also, because of the rash of thefts about, i'd rather pay a legit supplier for them. That is...unlesss you feel like doing a 2002 to 99 conversion..thik about it, u'll be unique

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

AHAHAHAH I KNEW THE LOCAL PORSCHE DEALER WAS ON CRACK!! even with my jobber discount, he wanted almost 10 grand in parts he said.
