Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that report identifying a cause

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

Clutch engagement on my car is also fairly high, and it was the same on my Boxster, too.
Leading evidence: 'same' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'same' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The car is at Valley Motors in MD. As I posted earlier it's a decently equipped CPO '04 996 and the car is in excellent condition. I took the car up I 83 and accelerated to a little over a 100 and if I didn't look at the speedometer, I would have thought that I was going around 60. There's at least a couple dozen things I loved about the car, but there were two negatives.
1. I had the sun roof open and when I drove the car between 35 and 40 MPH, there was a very annoying accoustical thumping sound. It was so annoying that if I buy the car, I'll probably always keep the sun roof closed.
2. The clutch engagement point is very high. I'd estimate that it doesn't engage until at least 80% of the way up. I thought that maybe the clutch was wearing out, but there was no signs of chattering in any gear. Also, some have posted that it gets progressively harder to depress the 996 clutch pedal as it wears out, and the effort required to depress this car's clutch is minimal.
The only option that this car doesn't have that's on my list of desired options is PSE. Other than that it's a great car at a reasonable price IMO.
I have the same problem with the roof. I think its just the pressure inside going at that speed. Opening the window a crack to reduce the pressure will eliminate that sound.
My '03 C4S Coupe makes the same thumping sound from the sunroof. Opening the window does makes it stop, but my wife gets a draft on the passenger side if I open my window. I find that if I set the sunroof about 2 or 3 inches short of fully opened, the noise stops, even with the windows closed.
Clutch engagement on my car is also fairly high, and it was the same on my Boxster, too. I just assume they are all that way.
I have a BMW with a panoramic sunroof and if I open it all the way OR when opening the rear windows the same thumping happens.....nobody can f...with the laws of nature....to prevent this noise you got to put on of those ugly "spoilers" at the beginning of your sunroof...or don't open it all the way!
Or buy a cab!! LOL
The clutch is on it's end and I would ask for a replacement before buying!!
