Since we use the same dyno, can you post dynos with the EVO intake and GIAC chip.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

How does this work you wonder? You buy a performance file from us or any other GIAC dealer. You can do this at the location or mail the ECU in. The file is loaded through the OBDII port or a plug is plugged in the ECU on the bench. The performance software is loaded in the ECU much like the original program from the dealer or factory was installed. If you choose the switch option you then will receive not only the performance file, but the stock file as well. You receive the car or ECU back and a handheld unit. Simply plug it in to the OBDII port and the unit will control the program you want to run. The unit is a snap to use, plug it in hit the read button and the unit will flash the lights of the programs that are in the ECU. The light will then go and stay lit on the program currently loaded. Press the button you want. When completed the light will then change to that button. Unplug the unit and shove in the glove box and you are done. No soldering, no mess. I personally run this on my own car. We loved the IBE when it came out, but this process far exceeds the older technology. The current lists of programs available are for the following: 996TT 996 997 997S Cayenne Boxster and S(loader soon) Currently OBDII flashing available. If you have any questions please feel free to email or call us or your local GIAC dealer. If you are close to our shop please stop by and I can give you a hands on demo on either my TT or my wifes Touareg

POST 2Original post

OK this sounds good, what would this do for a stock 04 c2, what kind of gains are we talking here, increase in hp and tourque, this is something i have been looking for but cannot find ..so far,, more info please, i like what i hear thus far

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The gains if you did an intake would be 22HP and 18 TQ. These are lower without the intake.

POST 4Original post

ok i am very interested i have the evo cold air intake in a 99 c2 tiptronic what kind of gains are we talking about and what is the cost?

POST 5Original post

Since we use the same dyno, can you post dynos with the EVO intake and GIAC chip. Or if you have one with an exhaust. Curious to see your results...

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Please contact me off the board. I typically do not like to conduct business on the threads. It cheapens the board as well as the roll of the sponsors. Dan, If you have the same dyno and you have a 996 why have you not done these test? A result on like dynos is not a good comparison. In the world of tuning you need to base line, then mod and retest for accurate results. My dyno is calibrated every 30 days so I am certain they will not read anywhere near the same. I will be happy to provide a base and the end result.

POST 7Original post

Absolutely, I'm amazed at the amount of differently calibrated files available. All the way from stock, intakes, super chargers, higher flow njectors, larger throttle bodies, 500-1000HP on the 996TTs... There really are a lot highly customized files available. Stepehn you and I have to line up at the drag strip with the new Valet mode and see who wins or looses... same thing. PS I'm never that smart when I flash! Nice skivvies

POST 8Original post

It is my understanding that Porsche can now tell if the ECU has been modified on the 02 and later cars. That would seem like a nice way to lose any engine related warranty repairs.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This is not accurate. When we flash a car the system will make a note how many times a car has been flashed. So it has a counter. The counter is written based on the software used to write it. When we flash an ECU it resets that counter so that no one knows that the car has been flashed. The tech can look up the car and see that it shows 2 total flashes (pick a number) and the ECU will confirm that. No more. The other thing is the DME map comparison. I have a PST2 and can confirm that this mode does not flag a program deviance. The stock program is exactly what the dealer has or we do for that matter in the PST2. You have to load the code for the car then it compares. The last thing that would be a dead give away is the over rev counter. If the electronic over rev counter shows over redline then it can be "assumed" that the ECU has been flashed. No other way this could occur. So, we do not raise the over rev counter. These three things as confirmed by any one that has a PST2 so a stock car when the switcher is in stock mode. Most of your "dealers" will try to make you think they know all and see all like big brother. It is a scare tactic. You believe it you won't mess with your car. Just like your dad telling you I have eyes in the back of my head. The dealers are not that smart.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Unless they are a direct GIAC dealer they will have to have the ECU confirmed and rekeyed through EVO. The EVO software is among a few of us and done mail order as well as in house. My self (ImagineAuto) and Sharkwerks. Matrix if a EVO dealer will be supplying you software that would be done as if EVO was there. Trust me, you will get the proper program.

POST 11Original post

I had mine done at a local Porsche Dealership..

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I can't really get into the specifics of how it is done, but know that the chip has areas that unless the software is specifically written to access these areas one doesn't even know it is there. In most cases before the dealer sends the ECU back they will flash it which then erases the whole chip and lays back in the single program. If it did go back to Bosch I am sure they could see it if they were looking for it, but as far as them simply hooking into the K line and going "oh look at that" I don't think so. The software is very specialized and specific. It is like having a hidden file that unless you know the name and how to retrieve it you can never find nor see it. Matrix has some of the same files that we all do. Anything that is in the GT series is proprietary to Evo and us. They would have to contact one of the two of us to receive that file and key code

POST 13Original post

what kind of performance gain can i expect on my 997s ? with evo intake does it cost extra to get the handheld flashloadier? i like the idea of being able to switch it back and forth myself

POST 14Original post

Bottom line it sounds as if one could be left with an expensive warranty repair if the box went back to the factory. I'll assume that the factory knows more than most on the board. I'll wait till the warranty expires. I don't think the flash would cause an issue but it could well be the vehicle for a warranty refusal. BMW has been looking very closely at M3's

POST 15Original post

Yes, but M3's have a well documented history of blowing up..... I sleep better now that I have my P-car......
