Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does the Porsche sport exhaust actually give any more power, or is it just a sound thing? Does the Ruf exhaust really give the claimed 5hp improvement? Are there any other exhausts on the market that do yield more in power gains? Thanks, Richard

POST 2Original post

Porsche does not make any claims about increased HP due to PSE. PSE is really about the sound. Any increase in HP related to changing exhaust mufflers alone would minimal.

POST 3Original post

I have a Ruf and I can definitely feel the 5 bhp increase. Seriously, it's like gota911 said, it's all about the sound. I'd focus much more on the aural note of the exhaust mod rather than horsepower. In fact, I've heard that with some aftermarket exhausts, you can actually lose torque and HP in the mid range of your rev band so stick with ones that people have had good experiences with. FWIW, the Ruf sounds pretty good to me and I didn't notice a 'loss' of power which was my principle concern.

POST 4Original post

It will SOUND faster. I'm betting it sounds about 100 HP more.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok, well I'm not interested in sound but in go. So, scratch one mod. And with modern cats there isn't much power loss there typically either...hmmm, the Porsche world looks to be pretty limited in power gains that aren't extremely big-ticket.

POST 6Original post

PSE sounds great, zero hp. Good aftermarket exhaust, sounds good, adds a little hp 3-10 max.

POST 7Original post

okay what is the best sounding sport exhaust in the market right now? I want that raspy sporty sound that I have now at 6000rpm...but I want it at 2000 or so rpm.....I have read a couple of time that the PSE is a little tame and that the fabspeed is the best sounding.....any body???

POST 8Original post

I think the best sounding exhaust is the one that your ears will enjoy the most. In saying that, I haven't heard the fabspeeds but I do own the PSE. the latter is by no means tame. i also don't think that 2K rpms is a decisive measure in how an exhaust can sound since one tends to never stay in that range too often. If you really want something loud in the lower rev range, I think the fabspeed cat bypasses will do the trick. If you want even louder, get the bypass mufflers. One doesn't have to hear these to know that they will sound LOUD.

POST 9Original post

I meant that the rapsy sound kicks in a little earlier..... I think that the bypass pipes are a little too much! I heard a c4s the other day and it sounded super! But when I read (on rennlist) tha PSE is a little tame is got confused..

POST 10Original post

PSE is not tame. Everyone looks over when I pull away from a light. I had someone roll down his window and tell me at the lights how amazing the car sounded; he thought it was aftermarket. BTW, I recomend the on/off switch if you live in an urban area; no need to **** off the neighbors at 2 am with the full sound when you're sneaking home. Turn it off and it (almost) sounds like a Toyota!

POST 11Original post

You gotta understand where some people are coming from. Compared to an open exhaust or bypass pipes, yeah, PSE is tame. I go to the tracks, and compared to the cars out there, my PSE sounds like a well muffled Caddy! OTOH, friends say they know I'm coming since they hear me enter the parking lot as they sit in the air conditioned building. If your plan is to drive the car on public roads on a regular basis, I highly recommend PSE. It sounds raspy, great burble on deceleration, and it's just on the right side of "too loud" without being abnoxious. BTW, here's a link on Coochas page with a Crazy European and his PSE equiped C4S: PSE C4S . I suggest you right-click and save-as.

POST 12Original post

Palting, tell me the truth: you come in revving the engine a little bit so as to say that you "have arrived". In truth, for most of the after-market exhausts (excluding sport cats and straight pipes), you can lightly feather the throttle and the P-car sounds very modest and unassuming. It's when you press down with your right foot that the sound of the heavens blares out and puts a smile on our faces.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah, I know, I'm just used to a world where there are a lot of inefficiencies in the car that a person can clear up and get more power without more stress on the engine.

POST 15Original post

I have the PSE and its plenty loud enough for me. No need to turn on the radio. It makes its own music. Beware you'll find yourself flooring it through tunnels.

POST 16Original post

PSE is louder in the higher RPMs from my experience... it sounds close to stock until about 3000 rpm or so

POST 17Original post

Palting, are you sure that was a pse, sounded way louder than the ones I've heard.
