Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sally Carrera is one of the characters in the upcoming Disney-Pixar movie "cars". The studio wanted a real-life version of Sally for promotional appearances so they hired Eddie Paul (who was referred by Jay Leno) to build it for them. Gizmag wrote an article about it and it has a few pictures: It seems a shame to chop up a 996 like that but the end result is awfully cute.

POST 2Original post

WTF, i looks ugly and girlie. Man, Porsche is a man's car, not a cartoon charactor.

POST 4Original post

Damn, I only have 3 words: TRAV ES TYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!

POST 5Original post

They only changed out the front bumper, tinted the windows, and painted the eyes on the windshield.

POST 7Original post

Actually, if you notice the roof and the front windshield, the lines look more in-line with that of a 993 or 964. There could be more work done to it than meets the eyes. The side skirts have been molded to the body (and an extra piece has been added to the rear), the rear quarter panel has taken on a slightly curvier shape and the rear bumper is definitely different too and the ride height rivals the cherokee!! someone drop some PSS9s on that baby

POST 8Original post

And he even seems to be proud of the job. Anybody in for a hitman group buy? Thorsten

POST 9Original post

evo, Perhpas you're right. The windshield doesn't look right, if that's the case then they spent some serious cash for that project car. How long before it's on e-bay? Rob

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

According to the article, they shortened the chassis and raised the roof.

POST 12Original post

Its a friggin Disney movie...who the heck cares! At least there is a Porsche in it!

POST 13Original post

The C pillar and windshield definitely come from a 964/993. It reminds me of an Opel GT.

POST 14Original post

I love it, Think of it like this, Even Disney Knows how good a Porsche is..964,993 or a 997 would have been a great as well

POST 15Original post

it looks like a go kart with a body kit.... Maybe Porsche AG will market a 2 stroke for kids? zooooooom

POST 16Original post

I think it's a great way to introduce Porsches to young kids. Have a sense of humor.

POST 17Original post

looks funny...it is a 993 body with a 996 back and 02+ front (fenders, light and hood) and part of the bumper (no the bottom part!!)...... the money people spend on movies! Poor porsche!!

POST 18Original post

From the 997 forum: https://rennlist.com/forums/997-forum/264664-sally-carrera.html no link was provided for the article, but here is snippit: Porsche delivered the 1999 Porsche 911 to Pauls EP Industries facility in El Segundo, Calif. The car was in perfect condition, Paul said. It had only 20,000 miles on it and not a scratch or a dent. That was before he and his crew went to work. We cut the car in half, he said of splitting the car across the crown of its roof just behind the front seats. We zigzagged down to the floor, taking the path of least destruction. To maintain the proportions of the virtual Sally Carrera created by Pixar Animation Studios, Paul and his crew had to shorten the 911s wheelbase by seven inches, raise its roof by 3 inches and give it a more upright windshield, and a windshield with eyes at that. While many animated cars have their eyes in their headlamps, Pixar Animation Studios John Lasseter, director of the upcoming CARS, along with his team of Pixar artists, decided that to turn cars into movie actors with expressive faces, they needed to have their eyes in the windshield, with mouths in their bumpers. Because virtual Sally Carrera is a 2002 model Porsche, Paul and his crew updated sheetmetal Sally with new front fenders, bumpers, headlights, tail lights and other 2002 model year parts. Keeping the cars proportions meant keeping the door intact, but moving the rear jam back 3 inches. The rocker panels were extended an inch closer to the ground and all windows were custom made from Plexiglas. Eyelids were built into the windshield and Paul fabricated curved eyeballs and a system that uses magnets so the eyeballs turn. Side windows were covered with what Paul describes as the first application of candy apple black tinting. The windshield also is wrapped with a one-way, see-thru plastic like that used in wrapping buses in advertising. Sallys front bumper includes a mouth with teeth.

POST 19Original post

I cant believe you didnt notice how out of skew the proportions on that body were. I didn't even see the eyes before I noticed how weird the car looked with that ridiculously high windshield and short "stubby" look to the car!

POST 22Original post

you and me both Riad, I just felt her forehead was to big.....and her butt a little too plumb!

POST 23Original post

Here are some more pictures. I have to applaud Pixar as they did their homework as to what a Porsche means to the average male age 6-60, which is their target audience: "Sally Carrera is female, smart, a professional, independent, laid-back, athletic and has a naughty & wild streak. Plus she can drive all night long." I don't know about you, but that is the kind of women I like. As for the Porsche being typecast as a female, don't we all think of our Porsches as female surrogates for us to have our way with?
