Read evidence and context

Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

been lurking for a while. Found a 2000 996 that I am going to look at. Saw the carfax, car was originally imported from Canada to the US in 2000. Originally registered as a commercial vehicle in Canada. Should I be concerned about this? thanks

POST 2Original post

no not at all, most Canadian cars are stored 6 months out of the year, Porsches are not very common here, so they tend to be taken care of.

POST 3Original post

Original owner probably registered it to his business to be able to save on taxes, hence the commercial registration. No biggie if the car checks out during the PP.I

POST 4Original post

I quickly read the title as "I have fondue in a 996..." I thought this was a new mod. I was curious, but logistically I couldn't see how it would work.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

it was late and I was typing fast

POST 6Original post

That's OK, it's early and I'm on a conference call!

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks for the replies. Should I have any concerns that car was converted from Kilometers to mph, etc? Would mileage on odometer be affected, etc. I know these are stupid questions, but I'm a newbie. thanks

POST 8Original post

Not at all. I drove my C4S to Toronto last summer, I just switched the odometer to kilometers so I knew how fast I was going.

POST 9Original post

Was the analogue speedo changed (whole unit or face) or just the digital display switched from Kph to Mph? If the whole cluster was swapped out, there should be some paperwork on it with the books for the car. As Riad said, switching the digital displays between US and Metric takes about 15 secs with the onboard computer.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I don't know, haven't seen the car in person, (hopefully will today). I was assuming that guages were changed at some point. I'll let you know.
