Not so long time ago I did a check and then saw that they had changed significantly.

I have the habit to check the deviations once a while and since that they were always the same value (something like 4.5 and 1.2, I dont remember even more so precisly) I did not further pay much attention to it.

Since then I have been checking more regularly and have seen the following deviations for bank 1 and 2 (the deviations stay rock solid over the whole rpm range)

Over the last period of time when checking the cam shaft deviation values for bank 1 and 2 I noticed they tend to change from time to time between different drives. I have the habit to check the deviations once a while and since that they were always the same value (something like 4.5 and 1.2, I dont remember even more so precisly) I did not further pay much attention to it. Not so long time ago I did a check and then saw that they had changed significantly. Since then I have been checking more regularly and have seen the following deviations for bank 1 and 2 (the deviations stay rock solid over the whole rpm range) 0.22 -4.14 6.02 1.27 (delta = 4.75) 1.27 -3,48 (delta = 4.75) The last two have an identical delta of 4.75 between the deviations (coincidence?) Can someone shed any light what might be the underlying cause for this behaviour. Or is it normal for the deviations to 'deviate' slightly each time when you start the engine? I have read somewhere the variocam actuators tend to wear out. However I am puzzled why they would cause such behaviour. Engine runs smooth and pulls strong, 3.6L, 130k miles

I believe I've read you can only take this measurement when the engine is at steady operating temp. So if your different drives were under different engine temperature conditions, that could explain the difference.

Values stay rock solid from cold start till fully warm engine and over the whole rpm range. I have never seem them change when the engine was warming up. The quoted values are all taken with engine at operating temperature.

Mine tighten up a bit the more I drive. I usually drive 20 miles then check them. If i check them at 5-7 they are a tad looser. My timing guides were done about 12k ago.
