Two other strict rules in Germany are (a) don't pass on the right (unless you're hurrying to P Strasse), and (b) always always always use your turn signals (especially when turning on to P Strasse).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This article is from an old European Car magazine where they drove a highly modified Brabus EV12 Mercedes Benz(Morphed from "E" Class). They tested the car up to 222MPH on the Autobahn and here's what they have to say about the superhighway driving.

POST 3Original post

Hey, I drive in Germany on Eastern european number plates ( Czech Republic) and in a C4. All those laws apply. The only thing that beat me was a gt3 last time round and he had the respect to not flash me, I just moved over to the middle lane in respect for his superior power. Actually most people move over when they see your xenons anyway.

POST 5Original post

Must be nice to still have freedom. In Canada all of our freedoms have been taken away.

POST 8Original post

Got a brief taste of freedom in Montana before they took that away too Besides american roads are not up to the same standard as german roads. I don't think americans are up to european driving skills either.

POST 9Original post

I think it is nuts that people want to put the speed limit down when cars are getting better and better. I personally drive as fast as I like as long as I feel safe. That can be 100km/h or 250km/h. If I am driving on a straight 3 lane motorway at 8 in the morning and I can see no other cars I will do 250km and I love it as it is relatively safe. The difference being where I live I can pay the police $30 and they will leave me alone. I love this freedom even if it envolves corrupting a police officer. A few weeks ago I drove Prague to Amsterdam through Germany. I actually felt safer on the autobahn than on a Dutch road as there are rules for the fast lane in Germany. If you going to go in that 3rd lane keep an eye on what is behind you! In Holland you get ******** driving 120km/h in the fast lane who won't move over because "it is the law". Germany is much more efficient and I am sure there economy is too as people can move around faster.

POST 10Original post

The whole reason the speed limit is set so low is to collect speed tax. And the whole speed kills jargon is bs. Speed doesn't kill stoping to fast kills.

POST 11Original post

Like when I bought my porsche from a German dealer. He said, " going faszt is not zee probleem, but ven you break it iz ze same az any car" You just need to keep a safe distance and when driving in Germany. You adjust to that and get a feeling for what people will and will not do in front of you.

POST 12Original post

Jumper I have to disagree. The speed limits are in effect b/c Cdn roads are not up to snuff. In Germany you can take a sweeping turn on an ramp on the autobahn at 200 plus km/ hr, without any road disruption. In Canada the joints between the road especially on off/on ramps are so poor that they would unsettle your car so badly that you would eventually catapult yourself off the ramp at that speed. Try taking the 407 westbound to the 427 southbound ramp at even 130km and you will see what I mean - the joiners are disgustingly poor. In Germany a ramp like that would never exist - it would be smooth the whole way through AND if it wasn't smooth they would post a speed limit of 130, 100, or 80km for that particular zone. Driving fast requires 3 things. 1. Fast car 2. Wide, smooth (no unsettling pavement) and clearly identified roads. 3. Drivers who know what they are doing. Canada or the US for that matter has only one of the above.

POST 14Original post

care4era, What color is your Carrera? I'm from Prague as well and drive a guards red C2. I don't see to many 911's in the city. I also recently travelled to Amsterdam through Germany with my car. I drive the car all over Europe and love when I get on the Autobahn. Being a red car I feel very safe driving in the fast lane. People get out of your way very quickly without needing to flash anyone. Have been to the Nurbergring on your way to Amsterdam? That place is just as addictive as Amsterdam.

POST 15Original post

996Carrera, I see plenty O porsche in Prague, well when I am at the dealer at least You are right, it is estimated there are only 500 or so in a counrty of 10.5 million that is not many. Most of these are in Prague for sure. I see one or 2 a day, mainly Cayennes now as all the businessmen are copying and keeping up with the Jones's. I have a black 2004 C4 coupe and live in Prague 5. In my street there is a guy who comes to work in a silver c2. In my office street there is C4 cab and I quite often seen a black gt3 around. Seems like I live in the porsche part of Prague Best of all I saw a silver carrera gt the other day...ahh one day<dream> So If I see a red C2 round I will give you a wave Which part of town you live in?

POST 16Original post

cae4era, I live in Prague 6, not to far from the Smichov dealer. Do you take your car there? I think I might have seen you around before when I think about. Does your C4 have two piece wheels and silver script on the back? There are a lot of Cayennes in the city but I rarely see any 911 Turbo's. Did you see the yellow Carrera GT selling at Impexcar this summer? Or how bout the MC12 and Enzo they have at the Ferrari dealer right now. We are definetly not short of expensive exotoics here. I have even seen a yellow Zonda in town and heard there was another silver one also. The Czech Zonda was at the Nurburgring during the summer. By any chance are you a soccer player? How long did it take you to drive to Amsterdam from Prague? Any speeding tickets along the way?

POST 17Original post

heh, the zonda is in my car park during the day. It is a guy who own a media company in the next street to me. I often see the ferrari guys in mala strana on the weekend sipping cappuccionos and looking cool overwatching their cars. Too many Bimma 7 series, Audia A8's in this town I noticed. A lot of guys have got the cash but they go for the exec saloon. Also seeing a lot of mercedes sl 550 amg at the mo. I saw the silver carrera gt at the dealer in Prague 5, where I go too. He had z plates so he lives in some czech town beginning with zed I suppose. As for soccer (football where I come from), only watch it on the TV. Might get off my sofa one day Amsterdam Prague, 8 hours. I did Prague-Krakow in a bit over 5 hours a few weeks back. I was speeding 230km/h in a speed trap, the police guy came out waving his white thing they have over here but I was just going to fast to stop. The idiot who was chasing me in the ford mondeo must have got the ticket instead

POST 18Original post

Expanding on the 4th Commandment- it is ILLEGAL to run out of gas or work on broken-down vehicles on any stretch of road. If the Polizei sees this...it means jail time. Zach

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This is old. I thought I revive it

POST 20Original post

<laughed> Those are great!! Makes me long to drive there. I agree with the speed limits lowered as cars get better is a joke. The government is NOT interested in saving lives for the sake of saving lives as much as saving lives to have more people to tax with stupid rules and fines!! That said.... why do we give people a drivers test on 25/mph roads and allow them to travel on ALL roads? There is no evidence they can handle speeds above 25! Tests should be held at higher speeds with hard cornering and emergency evasive actions to prove one can drive at 55...(I hate 55) I went thru Montana when the daytime speed limit was "safe and pertinent" at 120 mph and was never in any danger...I only wish that was still the case since now I have the p-car!! Everyday stupid people demand that the government make laws to remove our freedoms and we demand it plus ask them to fine us in the event we dont comply all in the name of safety and statistics (also know as lies) hey still on the box! Hahaha lets drive well and safe and FAST!! E

POST 21Original post

So what's with the fascination with driving to Amsterdam. Oh wait, yeah....sorry.......

In Germany, they call that "P-Strasse." Two other strict rules in Germany are (a) don't pass on the right (unless you're hurrying to P Strasse), and (b) always always always use your turn signals (especially when turning on to P Strasse).

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
