Per discussion with my mechanic he identified that the check engine light code P0446 is caused by an small leak from one of the hoses of the K&N intake, which by the way there are no replacement for the hose/fastener (he tighten it an the engine light was off for a day and then it came back), that if I want to not have the check engine light I would need to replace the K&N intake.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Per discussion with my mechanic he identified that the check engine light code P0446 is caused by an small leak from one of the hoses of the K&N intake, which by the way there are no replacement for the hose/fastener (he tighten it an the engine light was off for a day and then it came back), that if I want to not have the check engine light I would need to replace the K&N intake. My mechanic recommended to not make any other investments and that once/twice a year he would check that there are no other codes related to the check engine light. This is my first 911 and I would appreciate your feedback to follow or not my mechanic's recommendation. Thanks, Cesar

POST 2Original post

Had the same issue with my Fabspeed intake on my last 996 (a 99 C2). These aftermarket intakes are crap. Went back to stock and no more CEL. Will "upgrade" to a 997 3.8l intake on my current C4S soon. Per JR, they flow better than anything else out there.

POST 3Original post

I did not have that code when I was running that intake. I still regretted running it - at least one MAF was sacrificed at the altar of "cold" air. The header wrap on the factory snorkel suggests that you (or the previous owner) actually care about the air charge temp - if that's the case, getting rid of this and re-installing a factory airbox will do a much better job than the "seal" around the top of the K&N "airbox." You should be able to sell the K&N used and get a factory airbox for next to nothing - the line of people expecting intake/headers/exhaust mods to actually matter on the M96 is endless. If you elect to keep it, you might want to review the installation instructions to confirm that the install was done per K&N's recommendations: https://b.cdnbrm.com/images/info/k_n/57-7000.pdf

POST 4Original post

Cesar - Good on your mechanic for not being a snake oil guy! Like Bash Hat says, back to stock. I like my 3.8 box (goes with my 3.8) and Helmholtz delete (love the sound). My K&N still sits on a shelf. The aftermarket add-ones will cost more $$$, time and *** pain than they really are worth. Like the 5CHN3LLmeister alluded, MAFs and fuel trims don’t like change from their original programming. That discussion is for another rabbit hole. Following opinions from too many butt dyno’s resulted in me wasting some coin early on. Eventually I calmed down a little (but not enough according to wifey). Question everything and confirm as much as you can. Lots of knowledge on this and other sites. Lots of fluff and such too.

This ^^^ I am running with the 3.8 box per JR and will send you the stock box from my 3.4 for the cost of S&H.

POST 6Original post

I've never had an issue with mine. Most people don't clean and oil them (over oiling) correctly. I've used K&N filter on my HiPo VW with out issue and even on my 3rd Gen HEMI.

POST 7Original post

Has anybody tried a honeycomb air straightener in the intake ahead of the MAF? Just curious, I don't see Porsche leaving power on the table that a CAI would give.. But run-ability wise ,, I'd think it would help.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

GH996, Per the responses it makes sense to install the stock box and I really appreciate your offer. I've been traveling to Allegan, MI for work which is not that far from Grand Haven. Would you have any inconvenience if I may be able to drive to Grand Haven? Thanks, Cesar

POST 9Original post

I actually work in Holland which is even closer to Allegan. 4270 Sunnyside Drive is my office address. Just let me know what day you will be in the area.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks so much GH996, I'm actually in Allegan this week. If it works for you I can stop by early on either this Wednesday or Thursday, or late afternoon on Wednesday. Regards, Cesar

POST 11Original post

I will have it hear tomorrow morning by 8.30 am. We are open until 5 pm tomorrow and 8 am-5 pm on Thursday.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, I would be there on Thursday at 8 AM.

POST 13Original post

This is the kind of thread that makes me thrilled to be a part of this forum! Good on ya, GH996!

POST 14Original post

Where are you guys sourcing the 997 3.8L intakes from? Mike

POST 15Original post

I kept hawking eBay until a nice one with no broken tabs, torn screen, etc, came up for a decent price.
