Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Greetings for another lovely thread, I hope you are all doing well. Situation: My 2001 C2 IMS failed, and now I'm rebuilding the engine into a 3.8L "GT3" sort of deal. Just before the IMS let go, I did everything on the car - brakes, suspension, clutch, etc. So, I decided to rebuild this car instead of just rolling it off a cliff. Since the process has also been part of a court case, it's been out of action for over 2 years, and in August, I purchased a 2003 911 Turbo that I adore. The sharper lights have really grown on me. In addition, I love the GT3 MK 2 bodykit (prefer the Gen 2 wing), and the fried egg lights are not quite as aggressive as I want them to be, so I was considering switching out the front headlights for the Mk2, and moving to a Mk2 GT3 aero package. Has anyone ever done the swap? I've heard that I'm going to need to replace fenders as well. If anyone did it, how did you find it? Do you regret it? Is it worth just keeping it as a Mk 1 so I have one of each headlight? Money isn't the issue here, moreso ease as well as regrets. Thanks in advance! Warm regards, Matt

POST 2Original post

Hey Matt I swear I'm not stalking you My understanding is you're going to need the headlights (duh,) fenders, headlight trays/inserts that go between the fenders and lights, and bumper cover. Since I know you're going to respray the car when you're done - finding these things should be relatively easy from a junk yard or dismantler since you do not need to worry about all of the colors matching. It's purely about finding the right parts. My two cents is between the 3.8 rebuild and the Mk2 front end conversion - the front end conversion is the easier of the two jobs. If you're going to have a shop do it for you it should be pretty easy to coordinate finding parts, etc. Best of luck! EDIT - here's an example of a dismantler in CA. http://www.autobahnparts.com/carinfo...arrera-s654108 . Not sure if they would literally sell you the fenders off of this car but this is the sort of thing I was talking about. If you google "Porsche Dismantler" you'll find a lot of results. You should be able to find a donor car off of one of those sites.

Actually its been done quite a bit. Look up facelift or update for 996 and you will probably get a lot of hits. Fairly common so you should be able to get it Sorted out.

POST 4Original post

There's a set of fenders for sale right here on reenlist. In fact the whole car is being parted out.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Any chance you can help me out with the link? -Matt

Don't do it, man! Bunch o' work and $$ to end up with a less-original, less-attractive solution. You currently have 911 GT1 headlights. Keep them!! Or do whatever you want, it's your car, haha.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a storage area, so I'll keep all the parts to switch back if I want to -Matt

POST 9Original post

If you're going to go through all that trouble might as well go full out!

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

But if you already have a 997, then this doesn't work

to the untrained eye it appears as a 997, only from the front though
