Replaced the 10amp fuse in the back of the stereo which was blown; that powered my CDR220 back up.

But one great feature is you can change display colour to match the original Porsche orange if you want.

bluetooth aux input for the CDR-220 instead of replacing the stereo (mostly because I don't like the look of the aftermarket stereos).

The radio removal keys are removed when the stereo is out using the releases on the sides of the head unit. You should not need to have the keys in the head unit when you reinsert it into the dash.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

1. Any tricks for getting the radio removal keys out of the radio, or should I just nut up and pull really hard on these things?
2. Looking at a replacement radio from
Crutchfield
. For determining compatibility, one of the dropdowns is whether you have a factory subwoofer. - how do I tell whether I have a factory subwoofer? My options sticker is faded to blank.
I'm probably going to end up getting a super affordable single din, because my needs are pretty simple for now (really all I want is bluetooth to play music from my phone), but if any of you have specific stereo recommendations I am all ears.
womp womp. Was thinking about getting

bluetooth aux input for the CDR-220 instead of replacing the stereo (mostly because I don't like the look of the aftermarket stereos). Replaced the 10amp fuse in the back of the stereo which was blown; that powered my CDR220 back up. Entered radio code from the card in my owner's manual, and apparently it was not correct. I guess my the stereo was replaced at some point but the card in my manual was the original? Now my CDR-220 is locked and says "wait" indefinitely and I am presumably stuck either paying the stealership for the CDR 220 code or getting a new stereo after all.

It has a built in phone holder and Pioneers Sync software is like a bootleg CarPlay which works pretty well for Navigation (Waze) Phone calls and playing music.
Downsides in my car the phone screen obscures the A/C display but once the temp is set how often does anyone look at it. But one great feature is you can change display colour to match the original Porsche orange if you want.
Sound is loads better than the original unit and the display can be rotated to the horizontal position if you prefer it that way. Phone can also connect via Bluetooth if you dont want to charge your phone
You’d know if you had a factory subwoofer: it would be mounted behind the rear seats.

Code can be had from ivgsoft.com for $7 within minutes - used them over ten times.

As far as getting the keys out of your removed radio, you need to push and hold the "bumpers" on the side to simulate pushing the radio back in and the key will come out

I spent $80 on a refurbished medialess (i.e. no optical drive) head unit at Crutchfield...after burning thousands of dollars and countless hours trying to make the MOST-equipped Bose in my 986 not suck, I went the other way with my 996.
The JVC receiver running the 996's factory drivers plus a 10" powered sub where one of the back seats once lived is SO much better than the stock CDR-xxx sound system...
My thread on the installation...you also have many, many options when it comes to double din radios:
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...o-install.html
Put a screwdriver or other tool in each loop of the keys and pull really hard. Don't try it with your fingers. When you get the radio out, write down the serial number that's on the back and you'll be able to get the code from Renntech.org.
Btw - that link is to a cable, not a bluetooth adapter. I'm using the iSimple Transit Blu from Discount Car Stereo. Plug & Play and works great.
