I replaced the stock shifter in my C4S with a Porsche OEM SSK plus the Evo Shiftlink.

If you don't mark them and they come loose, you may have spend a lot of time "adjusting" them properly.

Suggestion
Just leave the cable ends on the cables, just unsnap/snap on at the shift tower, NO need to re-adjust anything.

Don't bother adjusting the links either, just snap off/snap on!
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi,
I am getting a SSK soon, do you guys know how much the dealer charge for installation? I wanted to see if it is worth doing the job myself, im not too technical.
It's easy, almost a crime to let the stealer do it. Will take less than an hour with basic hand tools, 250-300$ at the stealer. Plus the oem unit I'm getting you is already mounted in the housing, When you do it, I'll walk you thru it!
C4S is right. It is a DIY job. It only takes a couple torx drivers and some metric allen wrenches to do the job. You can break off the old shift retainers with a screwdriver. You don't need a knife like in the instructions. You can download the instructions off B&M's website. It should take less than an hour, but I believe the standard labor time in the book from Porsche is 1.5 hours. I could easily do it in under a half an hour. Figure 1.5 hours times your dealer's labor rate or as much as the shifter cost if your lazy.
The oem one is even easier, it comes mounted in the plastic frame/housing, no need to break anything, just bolt it in and go. Don't bother adjusting the links either, just snap off/snap on!
OK..Thanks..I made a few calls earlier, and the 'stealer' (as C4SS said) asked around $325..So i guess i will do it myself, you would have to be patient with me then C4SS..
I replaced the stock shifter in my C4S with a Porsche OEM SSK plus the Evo Shiftlink. Since the only tool I can use well is a telephone, I had Brandywine do the work - parts and labor $800. Perfect, careful install - and I love the result. Night and day. The good news is that's not as much as my thicker wheel will cost!
Phil
We carry the B&M (on special right now, limited time), and dealers should charge NO MORE than one hour labor for this install.
Or do it yourself, it's not that tough.
Very easy to do. The first time it will probably take you 2 hours to do it. If you were to do it again on another car, you could then do it in a little over an hour. Half of the time required is used to remove/reinstall the rear center console.
Thank you soooo much guys!! that is a great guide 02Carrera, Thank you. However, I think i am getting the OEM, but i assume it should be a similiar process right?
The only trick when I did mine that I would make sure you don't miss is to mark the linkage cable when you snap it out of the old shifter housing. It will be the metal threaded part of the cable that is hooked to the old shifter. I just put a piece of tape on each one to mark how far into the shifter linkage and it wors perfect. Others are right that the most time consuming part is removing the center console.
Just leave the cable ends on the cables, just unsnap/snap on at the shift tower, NO need to re-adjust anything. This is the way porsche recommends it be done by their techs.
I totally concur with Chris. However, I WOULD recommend that you mark the cable ends just in case one of them comes loose while you are unsnapping the socket ends. If you mark them and they don't come loose, no harm done. If you don't mark them and they come loose, you may have spend a lot of time "adjusting" them properly.
