Does he have repair receipts, paperwork, or before/after photos detailing such cosmetic damage?

The price seems OK indeed accounting for the mileage and all the Mods on the car, but I think you need to go there and see it in person, test drive it and have a PPI done before talking about dough.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

What you guys think this car is worth? It is listed in the rennlist classifieds section and is located about 2 hours from me. Any help is greatly appreciated! If anyone from the LA area knows this car, that would be very helpful as well.
6-Speed Manual, Black on Black, Supple Leather, Custom Stereo
with JL Audio speakers and subs, Bilstein PSS9 coilovers with gt3
sway bars, Aligned and corner balanced, Xenon, Cd Changer,
Aerokit with wing delete, 19" HRE wheels with Porsche Crests, New
PS2's, Exhaust tips, B&M Shifter, Non-Smoker, Garage kept.
Low miles with aerokit and HRE wheels, but still I think the price is a bit high. Perhaps it's just the lighting, but the interior doesn't look flawless to command additional premium either. One other odd thing. The car is a '99, but it appears to have the post-'02 rear bumper. What's up with that? In any case, I'd probably pay no more than $37K.
Just my $.02, good luck.
Car exterior looks great but the interior pic is not very clear, so hard to see the actual condition of it. Is there any wires dangling below the steering wheel or is it an optical illusion from the pic? The price seems OK indeed accounting for the mileage and all the Mods on the car, but I think you need to go there and see it in person, test drive it and have a PPI done before talking about dough. Good luck!
I plan on seeing this car later this week and then seeking more advice from fellow rennlisters. Ucube, the owner let me know that there was cosmetic damage on the previous bumper which is why he opted to have the later 02 installed...Botsy67 I will also look closely at wires when I see the car. Thanks for pointing this out.
1. In general, do Mod's really affect the price much? I like some (PSS9's, short shift, etc) but not too hip on a huge sound system...stock system is fine for me.
2. How concerned should I be about the "cosmetic damage"?
how can you tell the difference in rear bumpers?? from that image?? You got great eyes!!
I think 40K is high.....bought a 99 c2 cab tip (54k mls) last year for 42K.......seems to have great options...but to make the interior look great you got to replace all the ugly graphite black pieces (side vents, horse shoe, middle console etc!!) I did this and it makes the P looks 100% better!! but this cost money---> using ebay and selling your pieces....will set you back about 500-750 depending on your tast...if you do Carbon Fiber you will make much much more!!
Mods in general do not affect the selling price to a great extent, so I wouldn't pay
too
much of premium. Aerokit and premium wheels, however, do affect the appeal and demand for the car, so that'll have to be factored in somewhat.
I wouldn't be too concerned with "cosmetic" damage so long as the owner can prove it was just that. Does he have repair receipts, paperwork, or before/after photos detailing such cosmetic damage? Even if not, a thorough PPI
should
reveal any structural flaws.
Great advice Charlie. Thx. There is another one that just hit the radar. I can actually see this one on the way up to the black one.
1999 C2 Full Leather, Factory Aero Kit, Power Seats, 18"s, Hi-Fi, CD
41k miles asking 35k. This one is 5k asking less than the black one....
Whoa...now we're talking. Factory aero (with taco wing), full leather, power seats, and same mileage for considerably less. No HRE wheels, suspension upgrades, or premium audio system, however, so you'll have to determine how much those extras are worth to you. Provided both PPIs check out, I'd personally opt for the red one because:
1) black is a nightmare to maintain and upkeep
2) those extras aren't worth $5K to me
3) not a fan of mismatching body panels
Good luck and Let us know how your inspection turns out.
Go with the full aero. The other one is a hodgepodge with the deleted wing and aftermarket rear bumper. It probably got slammed from behind and that $199 repalacement bumper was most likely downloaded off eBaby. And black is a nightmare; it will only look good for five minutes after detailing. By the time you turn the key it will need another wax job. As long as you like the red, that is. If so go for it because a red 996 is a very rare sight indeed; at least in South Florida where I live. Enjoy
FYI, the dealers are selling taco wings for about $5k painted. This is the most expensive part of the factory aero. Also, HRE's are probably about $4-$5k and suspension is a big plus. If the red car is clean, that's a great deal. If the black car is clean, fair deal. GO RED!
Black is harder to maintain in "spotless" condition ... ask me, I have one !
I would totally go for the red one if the PPI turns out ok. Really - its a very good deal, so don't shove it past this weekend if possible. Do some google maps to see the closest porsche dealership that will do a PPI at the time and day you intend to bring the red car to them. Also talk to them over the phone a day prior saying "I'll be getting a 99 996 for a PPI, <when> <how much> etc" - some dealers in orange county don't do a PPI !!
hope that helps, love that red car !
cheers !
