Reported cause
V-F engineering sounds like it was the new name of Vortech's website.
Leading evidence: 'name of vortech's website' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'name of vortech's website' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Use vortech exclusively as part of their kit' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
They use vortech exclusively as part of their kit....
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Funny though when my SC leaked oil my shop had to go through vortech to get it fixed.
I've heard nothing but positives concerning supercharging.
Everyone reports huge increases in hp, that's for sure. I haven't heard of any cases of s/c systems causing problems with engines, either.
Yup, kicking around the idea too, instead of upgrading the Porsche from a 2003 to a 2005/2006, I was thinking about just supercharging, maybe try CAI and Plenum first to see what type of gains I get out of it. Then the daddy of them all the SC. Dyno's before and after for each.
What should one expect to pay when getting the SC installed?
I was looking at the CAI and Plenum as well first. I have heard around 100HP or so from the charger. I don't know anyone personally who has it. I have a few friends who have known people with the SC and they said it was great.
I wonder if they have a 30 day trial period LOL
If my motor is still this solid when the warranty is up, I'll drop one in (January 2010), but I definitely prefer the design, cooling and oiling setup of the VF Engineering kit (vortech v2 centrifugal) over the TPC kit. VF originally had an exclusive marketing relationship with EVOMS but it has expired and is now available directly from VF and from resellers. It seems to truly bolt on. Redridge on this forum has one and from what I've read seems to really love it.
I just read up on VFs kit. I knew about the EVOMS kit but I didn't know they split from their deal. The kit is really nice and I will have to seriously consider it once I get the body mods I want done. I would love to have that extra power in my C4. I am use to cars with forced induction so I hate that my Porsche doesn't have it but that is my fault for not buying the TT.
If I get the super charger, does it require headers and exhuast upgrade as well? I like the sound of the exhuast just the way it is. No fart pipes for my porsche!
With any car that you force induct it is typically recommended that you upgrade the factory exhaust to allow the motor to flow better and then a clutch and brake upgrade depending on the power increase.
Our cars are a little different from a stock 3 series BMW so I doubt we need a lot of upgrade on our brakes unless we are tracking. Does anyone know the limits to the stock clutch?
I planned to upgrade my exhaust and clutch before or during the SC install when/if I do it

(only the blower is Vortech, the whole kit is from a separate firm called VF Engineering)
I wish vortech had a direct solution, would be half the money.
yeah... I brought the switch with me, it has been sketchy for 6 months and the 1st day of track, the electricals were all acting funny... luckily I got it to start.
It took 10 min to install.... in hind sight, I should of just done it since the new switch sat for 6 months...
You know, I don't understand what is going on. I have been surfing Vortech's website since the mid-90's and now there is v-f engineering? They both offer Vortechs but they are not linked. What is going on? Are they the same entity? Are they seperate?
I still have my "S" trim. I need to sell it one day.
Uh...Redridge, how much HP did you get out of it, do you have any pics of the SC? Which SC do you have? TPC or the VF? Any problems with the SC or your engine as a result of SC'-ing???
from what I gather, VF makes kits and sells them that way to tuners. They use vortech exclusively as part of their kit.... Im sure they get a nice discount. Funny though when my SC leaked oil my shop had to go through vortech to get it fixed. VF manufactures the intake, brackets, silicone tubes etc..
extra 120hp and 90lb torque.... very linear power. No problems with the SC. Though I think I will upgrade my clutch to a more heavier duty when the time comes. The brakes is plenty good enough, but I recommend going with RS brake scoops if you track. I really like the VF kit... its designed around the character of the engine and dont really feel the boost (6 psi) till your high up in the rpm's. The power build up gradually rather than instant compared to the TPC (roots blower).
The inter-cooler works great and keeps the temps down. These engines are actually pretty strong, I havent heard of any exploded engines....yet. Very happy with the kit....
I guess I just got hung up on the similarities between the names. V-F engineering sounds like it was the new name of Vortech's website.
I sucked in a silicone hose into the impeller of mine once, my fault. The homemade intake elbow I made popped off and the vacuum on the inlet side sucked in the hose. Luckily, the hose clamp was not ingested - that would of been catostrophic. It was only $200 for a new impeller and balance. I am glad the transmission did not suffer any problems. I polished out the scratches inside the scroll myself and it did not lose any boost thankfully afterwards.
Vortechs are tough.
Does anyone know if there is talk of a Stage II kit? I know in the Bimmer world there are different levels of SC kits they sell. I had an M3 previously and considered this mod all the time. I am not sure if the engine could take more than the 6psi but they claim the blower can push 20psi which is why I ask.
Most blowers, including the S trim Vortech can push 20 psi. It's the plumbing that reduces it down to about a max of 9 - 10 psi. The 3.4 can take as much as 10 psi but increasing boost to those levels reduces performance of the engine. There is a maximum amount of boost specific to your car's setup before you start having negative returns.
Contrary to what most people think, more boost does not always mean better performance.
I don't know, I estimate around 22-25 PSI / 1.5-1.7 bar . The boost gauge would peg out long before I was at redline. The gauge stopped at 20 PSI / 1.3-1.4 bar.
i was at the glen with pca last month, great track. i wanted to go this weekend but could'nt get away from work. going on the 25th, and 26th with a different club, cant wait...
I was at the Glen, this weekend. This was my 2d with the SC, and it is rock solid. I still have the RMS leak, and it annoys, and is a little worse, but only a little.
I have the Plenum, headers and pipes from BB. All good.
