Suggestion

I had both of these codes popped up on me for over two years and i checked and replaced every thing had to do with vacuum you can imagine and smog except the SAI pump , the code always came up after getting off the freeway going through town , Finally as i was changing my starter i took the Vacuum canister out to double check for cracks and i found very small crack in the under side that i missed while checking the first and the second time .

Suggestion

You can test by isolating the vacuum system at the check valve, then use a hand vacuum pump to apply vaccum to the canister and associated lines/valves and check for leakdown (sometimes the crack in the vacuum canister will not leak until sufficient temperature is reached)

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Last night pulling in to the garage, I had a slight stumble followed by check engine light. P0941 and 2. Verified through scanner. Been reading lots of good troubleshooting posts. My question is can I drive it while working through trouble shooting if its not a quick obvious fix? thx Brian

POST 2Original post

Quotes source post: 16215842

P0491/2 are for secondary air injection, while running without proper secondary injection will NOT cause any problems, whatever is causing the secondary air injection not to work properly (like a vacuum leak) may be damaging to the engine ie. dirt ingestion. But as long as you don't live on a dirt road, and can get it fixed fairly quickly shouldn't be a big problem.

POST 3Original post

Would secondary air injection even be on if you are pulling IN to the garage? Meaning, isnt the car warmed up and you are returning home? My advice is that ANY check engine light on these cars should require immediate fixing. Its just too expensive to wait for something that was working to now fail because of improper timing or fuel delivery, etc.

POST 4Original post

Quotes source post: 16217874

As you know, the secondary air injection is used to heat up or "light-off" the cats during cold start and warm up. Then after everything is warmed up and functioning properly, the DME will preform "self tests" on the secondary air injection under certain conditions by activating the air injection system and watching for 02 sensors to detect additional oxygen.

POST 5Original post

I found the FC would light off after a long idle time such as a long red light, the issue was one of the vacuum hoses going to the vacuum reservoir was leaking. it never lit off on cold start, only during test cycles.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

At start up today, the SAI was not as noticeable as usual. No high pitched whine. I disassembled it and it spun with a little resistance. I lubed it up, reassembled and now it sounds normal. Cleared codes. Went for a drive. So far no check engine light.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 16219856

Will do. I hope it was just a sticking SAI. If not Pelican just dropped off all new vacuum components. Hopefully dont have to tear it all apart.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Update - after 2 weeks, code popped back up yesterday. since it is my daily, i would think that if it were a vacuum leak, i would have gotten the code a lot quicker. i am leaning towards SAI pump. i have started another thread on borrowing one. i will keep this thread up to date on final outcome.

POST 10Original post

I had both of these codes popped up on me for over two years and i checked and replaced every thing had to do with vacuum you can imagine and smog except the SAI pump , the code always came up after getting off the freeway going through town , Finally as i was changing my starter i took the Vacuum canister out to double check for cracks and i found very small crack in the under side that i missed while checking the first and the second time .

^^^ this. Have seen that many times. You can test by isolating the vacuum system at the check valve, then use a hand vacuum pump to apply vaccum to the canister and associated lines/valves and check for leakdown (sometimes the crack in the vacuum canister will not leak until sufficient temperature is reached)

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Today I took out the SAI. Tested just fine. Decided to tear in. Air filter and intake boot out. As I stared at what was ahead of me, I noticed one of the hose clamps on the intake off. Got it on and tightened. Decided to check the others. In my haste on reassembly from my starter replacement, I neglected to tighten any of them. All tight now. Will go on a test drive when the rain stops this weekend. I sure hope thats it.
