This is not a probability of success.

The first-gen 911 shipped for a decade, and Porsche made just 111,995 of them - 65,000 fewer cars (disclosure: I'm rounding) than the 996 run produced in 7 years.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

24 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Is there a market for 996 C2 show cars? If not, then when do you think people will look at a pristine 996 build and start to think if they should get that vs a good OE 997 example. (Yes, I am aware how much better a 997 is, I have had them both.) The 996 is a very under estimated car, and I would not be surprised if we start seeing more and more of them turn into premium builds simply due to the low initial cost of the car.

POST 3Original post

There is a market for anything. A 996 show car can be amazing and worth 50k or an utter embarrassment worth 8k. tough to tell WITHOUT PICS AND DETAILS

POST 4Original post

It's not a 'show car', but look at what they're doing with the 996 CSR. Pricey, the cost of a true GT3, but it's a pretty badass ****. I think we'll start seeing more stuff like this pop up as the car gets more notoriety.

POST 6Original post

Limited editions / first-year production models, maybe - there are just too many 996's on the road to expect them to appreciate as a group - at least in the next decade. The first-gen 911 shipped for a decade, and Porsche made just 111,995 of them - 65,000 fewer cars (disclosure: I'm rounding) than the 996 run produced in 7 years. 5chn3ll's Totally Unsubstantiated Guide to 996 Show Car Collectiblity Guide, First Edition: $$$$$-------------------->--------------------$ Turbros, NA performance variants, 40AEs, factory rarities (i.e. X51, leather-covered male and female travel urinals, etc.), and 99's with a 98 build date (hard maybe on the last one). I'll get crap for not including C4S's, but it's MY fictional list.

POST 7Original post

^^ don't forget the GT2 & GT3, unless that is a "NA performance variant" I'd imagine the very limited 996 GT3 RS will go down in history as one of the most valuable 996's of all time if it's not a GT2.

$56K for a tippy? Wow.

POST 9Original post

Yeah, I was including anything with a turbocharger as a "turbro" and anything track-oriented without a turbo as "NA performance variant."

POST 10Original post

What do you mean by "show car"? A show car to me is one that demos products. So, usually wild graphics applied, booming sound systems, etc. Is this what you're referring to, or are you saying a "car show" car? One that has super low miles, and is perfect inside and out?

POST 11Original post

Quotes source post: 16254303

I'm not the OP but I always interpret this term to mean a car that is judged. I.E. in a concours show compared to say a cars & coffee. So, a car that is to be factory original down to the stcker and obviously well cared for.

POST 12Original post

Anything hot girls in white knee-socks and plaid skirts instinctively lean up against is a show car. Everything else is just a car. Exercise caution if the wife happens to be nearby - there's a sixth sense involved here. Danger to man-ifold if you ignore this warning...

I like the sounds of this - 2/98 build here. Hopefully it will be worth something someday... Daryll

POST 16Original post

Oh God! Not another speculative steaming pile of BS...I guess this thread will go on and on for at least 10 pages...

Yup! Remember the 'Safari 996"? It was for sale for years and I don't think it ever sold. A build that was pretty unique, I liked it. Show car?

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 16255310

I speculate my 996 will be worth absolutely nothing by the time I get done with it...

POST 19Original post

Here are some photos of my 996 "show car". TechArt body kit, new carbon fiber + leather interior, turbo wheels.

POST 20Original post

I feel like the 996 can be difficult to sell throw in a VERY niche market of "show cars" and I think that makes it even more difficult. There are few people who want to buy other peoples projects.

POST 21Original post

Quotes source post: 16254790

yup...as delivered with the original wheels that go along with it

I have a "98" 996 Tip @ 90K. Rare Amazon Forest Green Serviced, Bilsteins, Elbachs. Found a great service shop in Milford Conn.

I love it! One question for you Alex - why Turbo Twists and no Formulas!? I feel like that would complete the TechArt kit. (Yes I'm biased because I have Formulas on my car )
