If the O2 sensor is good, then you could use an extender, but really it would be best to fix the problem.

I would troubleshoot the O2 sensor using live data from a bi-directional Scanner.

I have a P0420 error code on bank one. O2 sensors have 10000 miles and our factory. Catalytic converter has 10000 miles but is aftermarket. I can put in an extender on the post catalytic O2 sensor and see if it works. I can remove the cat ( non emissions state) but not sure it can be bypassed. Has any one done this? When I reset the code it stays off for 500 miles so I could just live with it. Buying a $ 3000 cat is not an option for a 2002 996 with 109000 miles. I have posted this before so this is an update

I would troubleshoot the O2 sensor using live data from a bi-directional Scanner. If the O2 sensorische bad, an extended won‘t help. Neither would removing the cat. If the O2 sensor is good, then you could use an extender, but really it would be best to fix the problem.
