Dealer replaced the iginition switch under extended warranty as well, but they billed 2.5 hours (a rip-off) of labor and $122 for part.

Suggestion
I can't tell you if replacing the ignition is an easy DIY, but I can tell you that your battery will die quickly and it will get tougher to take out the key, so either way, you'll want to act quickly.

my dealer won't even replace ignition switch because Porsche now has new version switch and they want you replace the whole assemble.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello P- car lovers..... my ignition is messing up. My key is kinda hard to pull out, and my ignition stays on....dashboard lights, radio- as if my key were still in there. I can't open the trunk or hood of my car not even the gas door. Is it easy to replace the ignition or should I just take it to the shop...must act fast before my battery dies out....can anyone help on this one?
Ignition tumbler is a common failure. Try searching here and renntech.org on how to. You may want to spray a little wd 40 to see if that helps you to pull the key out before battery dies.
I had the same thing happen when I bought mine. Fortunately for me, the car is under CPO and they repaired it for free. I actually think that this might not be covered under CPO warranty, and the dealer may have done it out of goodwill, as it started less than a week after I bought the car. I can't tell you if replacing the ignition is an easy DIY, but I can tell you that your battery will die quickly and it will get tougher to take out the key, so either way, you'll want to act quickly. Best of luck.
Sorry to hear that you also has this problem... It happened to my ignition as well, car only has 29k miles. The key was sticky and hard to remove, even if forced-removed the car still believed key was inside, cannot lock car. Dealer replaced the iginition switch under extended warranty as well, but they billed 2.5 hours (a rip-off) of labor and $122 for part. Luckily for me WarranTech paid my bill. Hopefully someone will chime-in and tell you how to DIY this common issue. Good luck!
no sweat bro, a trip to AUDI/VW dealer (yes, I'm serious) pick up ignition switch - 4A0-905-849 B - for about $38 bucks and search for DIY. my dealer won't even replace ignition switch because Porsche now has new version switch and they want you replace the whole assemble. which cost like 10 time more...
follow the DIY and it's very straight forward. after you done you will be so happy because now your key is smooth like hot knife on butter...
Good luck!
God I love this site.......I will renew my membership asap! thanks to all of you esp eddiemou I found some threads with the part number you gave me- now I know I can do it myself.......my local porsche mechanic was charging me at least 400.00 to do the job....I wll save lots of bucks...thanks again I will keep you guys posted.
I DID IT!.......I followed the DIY instructions (basically just remove 2 screws) and removed the ignition...took me about 15 min. I still can't believe I was going to pay approx 400.00 just for this. My key does slide out like a hot knife of butter
Good for you! I'm glad that worked out. BTW, I am collecting the "20% saving" fee for the guys that gave you the advice. Just send it to me and I'll make sure each of them get their cut.
Just so you know, I am totally kidding!
I'm glad you were able to fix it yourself!
