Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Found a 99 cab that looks good, with only 17.6k miles. Haven't seen it in person (yet), but I just emailed for more info. Here's the rub: he's asking $42.5k and states in the ad that he doesn't want to be bothered by people expecting to offer $40k for it! I've been over the ad several times and I can't figure out why it'd be worth that much? Kelly BB says that even in excellent shape it's worth less than $40k. He brags that it was driven less than 7500 miles in the last 5 years, so I think he's pushed the price up based on mileage alone. I worry that even if I could get him to come down in price, the ultra-low mileage is not a Good Thing. Whaddya think? tom

POST 2Original post

I don't worry about the low mileage as much as some people, but what do I know? Regardless, unless the car has recently been Certified by Porsche and will come with a warranty (which I'm assuming it is not), my opinion is that it is overpriced by at least a few grand. I was seeing newer Cabs (MY 2000) with similar mileage a year ago for 42k (in Los Angeles), so factoring in an older car and a year of depreciation......

POST 3Original post

I've been doing a lot of searching probably for a good 6 months or so before I got mine recently. That seems to be a little high for a 99. I've seen many at 30-40k miles, same year asking for $32-$38. The low mileage in this case might probably add a thousand$ or two the most.

POST 4Original post

Sounds like his price is firm. If he's in no hurry and is patient, he might find a buyer that will pay that. We had a Rennlister pay that for an early 3.4L aero coupe just last week or so. Also, for cars this old, actual condition and mileage will dictate value far more than model year. As a Porsche salesman once told me when I was complaining about their used car pricing, "There's an *** for every seat".

POST 5Original post

$40k Max for a super clean, perfect condition, certified(if there is such a thing), and low mileaged '99 Cabrio.. If I were you I'd look for a '00 or '01 if you are even entertaining his price.

POST 6Original post

for 45K you can get a 02 cab. from private sale with normal milage. ~30KMiles.

POST 7Original post

I have an extremely heavily factory optioned '99 Cab in near mint condition, looks terrific, drives superbly, everything works, 48k miles, Arctic Silver, Space Grey, Grey Top. This car was just over $100k new as near as I can figure (30 options, many exclusive) and if I was to sell it today I would want a minimum of $40k and more like $42k+. Also I had a new motor with all the latest upgrades like large intermediate shaft bearings, Latest RMS, new starter, alternator, PS pump, etc, new clutch kit, new coolant tank installed by Porsche in late spring. I feel my car is better than an '00 or '01 as it is lighter, does not have the dreaded E-Gas, has LSD, TC. Just my take, opinions of others may vary.

POST 8Original post

You must find your own comfort level. Its worth whatever someone is willing to pay. For comparison purposes, though, in 2004, I bought a 2000 Cab, very clean, low mileage, heavily optioned (original window sticker over $94K). Price included a several hundred $ PPI by a Porsche dealer .... followed by maintenance on all the issues they identified (new tires, front brakes, adjust hood latch, etc). It has run trouble free ever since, accumulating another 25K miles. Price 20 months ago: $43K .... just one more than asked for your 99.

POST 9Original post

I paid 42 about 10 months ago, so the car should be around 38-40 right now! depending on the condition of the car...low mileage for a 99 isn't always a good thing...mine had 54K and now at 65K still going strong with (knock on wood!!!!!) no problems!! I put about 15K of mods in mine (incl front conversion) and know I will never get this money back!! If I would have to sell mine now..I'll put it up for 45K....but I would have to wait for a serious buyer that wants exactly what my P has......luckily I don't have to sell and plan to keep mine for 5+ years.
