Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

In this particular case, they air-freighted in a new engine overnight, and 24 hours after the failure, they had replaced the engine and had me on my way.
Leading evidence: 'Replace engine and had me' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Repair history is less than 1 page long' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

That's only 3-4 oil changes per mean engine failure ;-)

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I bought the car new in Jan. 2004.
Not one problem, zero. Hard NY winters, harder NYC roads, but it gets driven all year round.
Regular maintenance and that's it.
My 02 has just over 65K miles, and other than the RMS problems 3 years ago, it has been very trouble free. In fact, the lifetime maintenance and repair history is less than 1 page long. Other than change the rear tires every 20K and the oil every 15K, it runs great, no problems at all!
My experience has been 4 oil changes : 1 engine failure. Kudos to Porsche for stepping up to the plate and making things right, no questions, no fuss, no muss. In this particular case, they air-freighted in a new engine overnight, and 24 hours after the failure, they had replaced the engine and had me on my way.
Yea you caught me. I actually swapped it out for a Toyota Camery engine after the 4th implode... no one can tell... as long as I don't try to go anywhere fast.
It's definitely softer that's for sure.
I'm guessing new suspension next year, and new clutch at around 80k miles or so.
Hey Tim! Yeah, it fits. All too well. Riad, thanks for coming to my defense - they are wonderful cars to look at. As I'm leaving for work in the morning, nothing like seeing that pristine 4S staring back at me in the garage.
Camry Hybrid? Here, print this out, cut it out and stick it to the back of the car. Now you can ride in the HOV lane on the Turnpike. Now look who's going fast
I know I have already asked you before but how is the body holding up? I remember you saying that you drove it in winter. Do you undercoat it? Everything still look good on the hoist?
I ask because Adrian Streather said the under body design did not bode well for a winter car. Four and a half years should be a good test.
Thanks!
As far as I could tell everything looks fantastic. The car was on the lift last month getting the brakes done, and except for some scratches to the plastic under thingy it looked good as new.
theres undercoating from the factory... cosmoline.... Good stuff! Plus the car is dipped in some anti rust coating. On the most part todays modern car shouldnt have issues with rust.
P cars rock.
The only cars I never have problems with are Porsche and BMWs.
Don't you have little vibration noises because of the S chassis and hard NY roads ?
I ask this because during my hunt I tried a 4S on which all the loudspeaker grids and the center console were vibrating at low speed.
I was wondering if mine would become like that !
You'd hope so but you never know. I am getting rid of a 2001 GMC Sierra in the next week or two. It looks pretty rusty underneath because I never undercoated it. I am really curious how a C4S/Turbo from that time period would look if driven through the winter, like Riad has done. Although his is newer than I would be buying, it would be a great indicator.
American cars are terrible with rust. I don't know how they build them (like 20 years ago ?) but I noticed that too.
Older P cars ?
I have a 964 that ran 80.000 miles in Europe (salty roads in winter, vacation in Pays Basque salty and humid) never under coated, only seriously washed twice a year, and no point of rust except around the bottom of the rear shield. I totally dismantled the car to build a track car so I could check everywhere (and this is how I found the spots at the rear).
mine sees daily duty in winter as well as being a track toy in the summer and there are no problems with corrosion. No extra undercoating is needed, but I do powerwash the underbelly once a week in winter to blast off the grime. It must work since my car has placed 2nd two years in a row in the local PCA concours...still looks new inside and out and underneath!
I have a slight rattle in the a/c duct that I've been too lazy to fix. I'll take apart the dash and line the parts with foam tape so they don't come loose and rub.
Other than that, it's free from floating parts.
I purchased the car from Alfie at Ira Porsche. When he was describing the car to me over the phone I asked him if it had a rear wiper... there was silence for about 5 seconds and he answered, "Um it's a cab".
I let him know it was a joke.
Where do you wash it at in the wintertime? Home? Carwash? Either way how do you get underneath with the hose?
I will be looking at a 5 to 7 year old car and am hoping to keep it for several, if not many years.
Glad to hear all the favourable comments about winter drinving. I just got the C4S and it will be a DD through the Toronto area winters for many years to come.
I just read a post on the 993TT site about winter driving one. Tempting. Maybe I'll find a perfect day this winter. It would be a hoot if I survive.
