Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

What are the best books on 911 history and development? I just finished "Perfection by Design" and I learned some good stuff. Is there any book that covers the history of development very well, with interviews of the company insiders and such?
I got "Perfection by Design" for X-mas and read it cover to cover. Just to add to that, what about videos/DVD that feature Porsches? These could be either documentaries or fiction. It would great if we had a list.
Just watched "Bad Boys" on DVD on a flight recently and it was a kick to see that beautiful turbo being put through it's paces.
I agree "Porsche 911: Perfection by Design" is a pretty good book. I keep it by my bed to read before I go to sleep.
As far as DVDs go let me see:
There a bunch of "Best Motoring Internations/Hot Version" DVDs featuring 911s
"Porsche 996 Turbo the King"
"Carrera Invasion"
"New M3 Takes On JDM Super Sports"
"Fuji Fast! All Star Battle at Japan's Fastest Track"
"Enduro Challenge"
"Super Battle"
There's also a couple of shows you can Tivo:
"Automobile: Porsche 911" on the History Channel
"Rides: Hollywood Porsches" on TLC
Porsche 911 Story by Paul Frere. Paul F is a very famous porsche writer who followed porsche's legacy and development since day one! It's the most comprehensive one I have seen.
Most of the Best Motoring International/Hot Version DVDs I rented from Netflix. I think there are a lot of places that sell them (don't some of the site sponsors sell them?), just google them. The first 2 DVDs in the list are dedicated entirely to the 996 Turbo, and 997, respectively. The others feature a version of the 996 in a segment e.g. track race, 1/4 mile. Coochas has a bunch of clips from some of them on his site (coochas.com).
I think the History Channel might sell their video of the history of the 911, but I think it was made in the mid 1990's because they talk about the "new model" being the 993.
You may want to check the 3 volume set "Porsche: Excellence Was Expected" by Karl Ludvigsen. The last 2 volumes have a very comprehensive coverage on the 911.
From a DVD perspective you may want to check "Victory by Design: Porsche" (show also shown sometimes on SPEED channel). Alain de Cadenet drives and appraises the milestone competition and production cars spanning Porsches history from Porsche Number One to the Carrera GT.
Agree with Fast40th. The three volume set "Porsche: Excellence Was Expected" is the best comprehensive source available. It is not cheap, but it is a good value for what you get.
Just checked out "Excellence Was Expected" on Amazon - $163 or $135 used. The ever-popular "other customers bought" list included:
Porsche : The Road from Zuffenhausen by Dennis Adler
The Gold-Plated Porsche : How I Sank a Small Fortune into a Used Car, and Other Misadventures by Stephan Wilkinson
Porsche 911 Story by Paul Frere
Porsche 911: Perfection by Design by Randy Leffingwell
Le Mans DVD ~ Steve McQueen
Most of these are obvious choices except for "Gold-Plated Porsche". It looks interesting even though it's not really a car book.
Gold Plated Porsche was a fun read -- Mr. Wilkinson's cronicles on his adventures and misadventures while restoring his early 80's 911SC is quite entertaining. Check it out.
