Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. I replaced my water pump recently, that went well, quite easy in fact.
Leading evidence: 'Replace water pump recently' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'mount' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace water pump recently' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

The way I replaced the water pump requires the engine to be lifted slightly, the engine mounts are not involved.

I'm thinking I may have tightened the bolts back up when I still had the engine lifted with my floor jack.

Suspected cause
I thought it was the mount but when I pulled it, it looked fine.

Or perhaps the left side needs to be raised slightly then tightened since it's the left exhaust that's affected.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

First issue. A while back I changed out my front struts and also the drop links. Easy DIY. No issues after this and the car drove fine and braked fine. However, I just replaced my rotors and pads and now if I'm going around 20 mph and if I hit the brakes the car stops fine and straight if the steering wheel is straight. But at this speed if the steering wheel is slightly to the left when I brake the car tracks left as I come to a stop. And if the steering wheel is slightly to the right when I brake the car tracks right as I come to a stop. Never noticed this before the brake/rotor job. Normal, not normal, something I did wrong? At speeds higher than 20 mph the cars tracks straight regardless of steering position not being perfectly straight.
Second issue. I replaced my water pump recently, that went well, quite easy in fact. To do this I lifted the engine and removed those bolts to pull the engine carrier out a bit to access the pump. Now I notice my left tail pipe is dropped down a bit. Before it was not and I know this because I swapped out my engine mounts and both pipes were even and nice and tight up to the body. I'm thinking I may have tightened the bolts back up when I still had the engine lifted with my floor jack. Maybe the bolts should have been tightened with the engine hanging freely. Would this cause the dropped right tail pipe? Thinking I should loosen them back up and then re-tighten them with the car sitting normal and see if this helps. Or maybe the other way around, maybe tighten them with the engine lifted. I'm also thinking that maybe I had the engine lifted unevenly and then tightened them with the engine slightly tilted and that could be the reason for the tail pipe drop on the right side.
Any thoughts guys?
You're not supposed to raise the engine with a jack, rather you support it from dropping when loosening the engine mounts. I would go back and loosen with the engine supported and retorque the mount bolts.
Yes, when doing the mounts i just supported the engine to replace. Just to clarify, I did the mounts 3 years ago due to both pipes sagging. New mounts solved that and improved handling. When I say I raised the engine, it was during the water pump replacement. After water pump replacement is when i noticed the left pipe was lower.
MK1 or MK2 - each have a different specification on the distance from the bumper for the tail pipes:
MK2 is 22mm from the bumper down 7-10mm from the bumper out.
After reading some of the engine mount issue posts about them failing in only a few thousand miles, I'm thinking the second issue
I mention in post #1 could be a failed engine mount.
I'm in the same boat as you with the tail pipe...I just did the water pump and now my left tip is lower. I thought it was the mount but when I pulled it, it looked fine. New mount made no dif.
The engine carrier to block must have a little wiggle (Bolt holes) room and needs to be adjusted. Just my guess.
Good guess. I agree. Going to go back and loosen things up and then re-tighten things as many times til it's right. If I remember correctly, I had to lift the engine up a little to get the bolts to line up with the carrier. I may have kept the engine slightly raised while I tightened everything up. Maybe the engine has to be hanging freely and then things need to be tightened. Or perhaps the left side needs to be raised slightly then tightened since it's the left exhaust that's affected.
If the engine hangs freely it's on the ground. I just did my mounts, and raised the engine until it was as raised it can get, then torqued everything, and when I removed the jacks everything was at the right height.
Not talking about the mounts being loosened, you're not following. Talking about loosening the bolts and things that are required when doing the water pump replacement. Letting the engine "hang freely" means not tightening all those bits fully while the engine is supported by a floor jack. The way I replaced the water pump requires the engine to be lifted slightly, the engine mounts are not involved.
