Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Use torch and got the bolt out' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Disconnect once you know the trick' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

The good thing is I did realize the car has a fabspeed air filter and tube set (with the fancy carbon fiber looking airbox cap).

This isn't Mercedes in its heyday using brass hardware throughout the exhaust system.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Yes, the tab is there to help - you push down on the end that sticks up, BUT the trick is you have to push the connector further in while you do this, to take the tension off it, then it will actually pivot up enough to get out of the way so you can pull it off.

The tab is in the mirror. So I push on the two lines or the other end or am I sliding it in one direction. This is the stuff that can make in inexpensive job (water pump) go bad. This in only step one. Hopefully not an omen. 😀
Push the two connectors together, as if you were trying to connect them even more than they currently are. This will take tension off the tab so you can pivot the tab as intended, then pull apart.
I wonder. Ive learned to ask before I just start pulling at things. I did my Boxster no problem but this has the whole jacking up the motor which has me a bit concerned. I have a few days before the water pump comes in. I may change my mind.
I just snapped a bolt on one of the exhaust support brackets. I guess Ill pay to get this one done. Funny as I get older I just dont have the ***** I once had.
when I got into the Porsche world I bought a 77 Carrera 3.0. I jacked it up, pulled the motor and sent off the tranny to get fixed. Then I strip the entire car down to the bare metal and painted in my garage. Never painted anything before. Now Im weary of changing a spark plug. Sad
Eh, any of the bolts that touch exhaust are going to be totally rusted out. This isn't Mercedes in its heyday using brass hardware throughout the exhaust system. Any time I'm touching an exhaust bolt for a job, I buy replacement hardware before I start.
And the connector question doesn't prove you shouldn't tackle this job. I have been working on cars since I was 12, but because they weren't Porsches I never came across a connector that had to be pushed together first to release it. If you're in my area, I'd happily come over to help you get back in your groove on this.
Ugh
Aging sucks (in a way) doesn't it? Then again, it's not so bad having the $ to pay someone else to do the stuff that you don't care to anymore...right? It seems like main the reason I learned to do a lot of mechanical stuff was because I didn't have any money to pay anyone else to do it. I'm glad I learned to work on stuff but it's nice to be able to pick and choose the jobs I want to do. Granted it's still most of them - I hate to pay someone to do something I can do my self, especially if I know I can do it just as well (or better in some cases). Not to blow my own horn, but I think simply caring about the job when DIY'ing gives you a leg up on a lot of shops.
That is harsh. Porsche is well known for using connectors that are counter intuitive to remove. It's OK to ask. Audi and VW are also guilty of the same Teutonic zeal about good connectors.
Don't give in. Get out the right angle drill, Oxy torch and beat that bolt into submission. What's the worst thing that can happen? You weld up a repair or buy a new support bracket.
it was just a bolt on the exhaust support bracket clamp. I got it off, I am just waiting for new clamp to come in. Used a torch and got the bolt out. All's good.
The good thing is I did realize the car has a fabspeed air filter and tube set (with the fancy carbon fiber looking airbox cap). Good for another 10hp, (joking). It does look cool though.
Thanks everyone. Over and out.
Agreed. I have it down pat now but the first few times I had to remove it took way more time than it should have. Every freaking connector on this car detaches in a different way.
