Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

How hard is this to do? Is it plug and play?

POST 2Original post

As long as you can find a 3-spoke wheel with a known-good airbag module, the swap is fairly straightforward - but it does involve messing with pyrotechnic charges. Discretion is mandatory; you can quite literally blow your face off. As I recall, the airbag bolts are removed from the back side of the wheel using hex/Torx; the airbag unplugs and the rest becomes pretty straightforward. Here's a Pelican article: https://www.pelicanparts.com/techart...eplacement.htm

POST 4Original post

I did the swap from 4 to 3 spoke and it was plug and play. I just made sure I disconnected the battery before messing with the airbag. I was more worried about f-ing up the clock spring than the airbag.

POST 5Original post

Disconnect battery and wait is what they say; let any residual charge in the air bag dissipate to be safe.

POST 7Original post

It's super easy. Here is a procedure I wrote on putting a 996 steering wheel in a 968, but it's basically the same. Make sure you straighten the wheel and mark the shaft with a sharpie so you know which way is up when you put the new one on. There is no modifications to the wheel required as shown in the procedure, those mods are only required to put it in the 968. https://rennlist.com/forums/968-foru...the-968-a.html

No, not yet. I am searching for one.

POST 9Original post

I did it years ago, no problems. I still have the four spoke airbag in Savannah Beige that came with the car from the factory if anyone needs one.
