Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Im thinking of buying a 2001 Carrera cabriolet with the X-51 engine mod. Car is in Colorado There is an issue with the wiring harness from the original chassis doesn't mate up with the X51 engine and the CEL is on. When The engine upgrade was made the 2015 Colorado emissions was using what's called a treadmill test and the car could pass at COMV. I live in NJ and the OBD test cannot be run with the Check Engine Light on, it will not pass inspection. Im guessing the wiring mismatch can be fixed, but Im guessing there will quite a lot of work/cost involved. Has anyone had the same/similar issue when doing the X-51 upgrade?

POST 2Original post

Can you say nightmare? Firstly, the X-51 afaik is a mechanically based "power package" - this is not to say that there isn't a "tune" associated with it, but that isn't a wiring harness issue. If what you're saying is that this X-51 motor is from a later model year (i.e. a 996.2 with a later ECU revision) this is a REAL problem. When reading about these types of "mods" the bottom line is always that they're difficult and EXPENSIVE. They certainly CAN be done, but they're not for the faint of heart or the inexperienced. Here is a thread with some info. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...96-swap-3.html Good Luck - let us know what you decide to do.

POST 3Original post

You should at least read the CEL code and then start from there.
