Which would be a good community to live in if working at Andrews AFB?
I might be moving there next year and any info on where the good, safe communities are at will be appreciated. Not the super expensive areas please.
Thanks in advance
We were originally looking in Prince George County where AFB is, house prices are not that bad, but a friend said not a good area. Friend is recommending Anne Arandel(includes Annapolis)county houses are almost double the price
Plus it looks like a bit of a drive to AFB. I remember passing by a couple of nice communities in Prince George but I forgot the name/area? I'm hoping for a nice, good safe quiet community in Prince George's. safe enough for a HS daughter and the P car
4BR, 2.5Bath, 2 Car Grg for no more than 550K range. Is that low for the area???
thanks again

I'm not an expert on PG County specifically, but if you could get anywhere near that many bedrooms and baths for $550K, I'd say there would have to be some problems in the neighborhood. My son paid over $300K for a one bedroom condo in Rockville.
The price will depend upon how nice of an area you want to live in, and how far you are willing to commute. When judging your commute time, don't take the drive on a weekend, but if you do, multiply the time by at least a factor of 1.5. Annapolis is a great area, but it's very pricey. I'd say that the price of the home you described in Annapolis would be in the $800K+ range.
The best thing to do is to get a good Real Estate agent, and ask for recommendations.
I would look else where too instead of PG county, my grandparents had to move out of their property due to the crime increase in that area. There are tons of good houses in the 550K range around here. I work closely with many Real Estate agents and I can recommend you to a knowledgable one that can help you find your new property in this area. I can PM you the contact number if you are interested.
We live in Howard County, one county over from PG. Yes it's a bit more expensive but the communities and schools are much nicer. Your commute would be about 35 min. on average. $550-600 is definitely doable.
The other counties bordering PG are nicer than PG, but the schools are nowhere up to par with Howard County. You should also consider Montgomery County, though be warned that it will be more expensive than Howard County.
If you're interested, my aunt is a realtor. She can hook you up.
And best of all....moving to this area you'll be a part of the dorki clan. See

Let me know if you need me to scout out any places for you.

I guess I just have to bump up the budget for the house
I need to get a map too to see all the areas everyone have mentioned. I really appreciate the insight. Reenlist Rocks!! // I wouldn't mind a 15 mile drive to work, but if it takes longer to be in a nicer area, I'd do it. Thats means more time with the p car.. right
I did hear about the horendous traffic in most areas of commute
If we move next Spring, my daughter still has a year to go in higschool, I would definitely put her in private sch basing on your recommendations.
With today's real estate market, I wonder if I only live in the house for 3 years, if I'll get my money back. I'll be happy with that, but of course profit is a pleasant bonus. Being in the service, I know that I will only be there for 3 years and have to move again.
Anyway, I really appreciate the heads up on PG. Where do most of you listers/porschephiles hang out on weekends? I know you have the dorkiphus up there, where do you meet? Maybe I could drive up there (stretch the porsche legs) at one of your breakfast meets and scan the areas you mentioned first hand. I have to look at the map for all your recommendations. Thanks so much again and I will keep everyone posted of my search. I surely would love to take realtor agents you guys recommends as my move gets closer.
I'me keeping all your reponses and postings. I actually copy and printed them for reference when I get back late this year I'll be up there to start looking for a place to stay. Thanks again Listers for the time!!
